Well I am natural optimistic guy.. so my answer is yes..
The patch will come.

But to be honest, I like the game were it is today.
It still has bugs, but the don't really bug me :p

I play SH4 with TM and ROW and some other small mods.
I love every minute of it !

It's a damn good trio.. Ubi for the money, devs for the game and subsim delivers the greatest modders on this planet.

I am of a similar opinion to that of SteamWake; voting states a belief, or hope, one way or the other. Since I've heard nothing that could be described as actual information, I think that any opinion stated is just that: speculation. This message was found on the German Ubi site. Apparently it was up for less than a second but advanced Google archiver crawlers caught it five minutes before a Google crash that obliterated all record of this post forever. It's true.

To be fair, sometimes real subs didn't complete a mission. Also, I have seen repeat mission bugs where the mission dates don't match the actual date. Ie: you do a mission and put into port on january 4, get the repeat mission bug, and you leave port in December again. I THINK time travel is a bug ;)

I just hope 1.4 patch makes SH4 the game it should of been had it not been rushed.

I know i addressed most the crew issues myself on the offical SH4 forums, but more detailed info on crew management would be nice something simple like what attributes a sailor needs to make that compartment effective, possible class for mechinical engineer for damage control instead of using engine specialists for damage control.

a status report option would be nice, given info on current fuel and estimated range of fuel, a checklist of ship components detailing there functionality (good/damaged/broken)

1.3 Made great strides in that direction.

The more detailed info on crew management may have been on the alleged "missing pages" of the manual. Perhaps they will make a re-apperance as an addendum in a .pdf (shrug). In the meantime SubSim has lots of threads and info on that aspect.

Not sure what they can do about improving the damage reports but one can only help.

Oh am i disapointed in you! I read your post in the UBI forum and, well, i'm quite shocked you used the word "terrorism" to describe a bloke trying to get people to ring UBI offices and ask for a patch. I mean, lets be frank here, they'll hardly "terrorise" UBI's help desk, annoy them sure, pee them off certainly, but terrorise...I doubt it.

In this day and age that word is used far to much, lets not debase its common meaning. The English language already has too many words to say essentially the same thing, once a words common accepted meaning gets bastardised then a new one soon pops up to take its place. The end result is a language containing so many words that only lawyers and linguists will be able to understand each other.....and even then, only at a push.

Of course, if you're a lawyer then you have a vested interest ;)

That particular one looks like a cat I had as a kid. Her litter mates were all killed by a pack of dogs. She was the only suvivor. My brother brought her home and we nursed her to health. She had her tail bitten in half. We named here Little Orphan Annie. Just Annie for short. Later on she decided to get warm by climbing up under a car hood and sitting the engine. Needless to say the owner showed up and started the motor not knowing she was under the hood. She made it all the way to the train station under the hood. The car owner heard her cries and opened the hood to find her there in a bloody mess. She had her ID tag on and the car owner called us. Anyway, after all this was said and done, she had 101 stitches down her back. One ear was completely cut off and she lost some fur on her hindquarters that never grew back. Anyway, that picture looks exactly like Annie. So after all that good stuff, one day she decides to break a leg. Cool cast that we all signed. She lived until she was 19 years old. Talk about nine lives bro. :rock:

But if pigs should fly, and hell freeze over, i have an idea (im not saying im doing this) that is a little unorthodoxed if one was to look at the history of modpackages on Subsim.


The idea is simply to present TM as a community project. Infact, in the readme, it should say, TM, by (insert long list of names here). Then presented as community project, open a subforum in the mod forum specifically for work on TM.Right now im of the thought that only contributing modders should be allowed to post there to keep the forum on topic, but have the forum totally transparent for all to see, with a sticky post somewhere that anybody should be able to post to, to provide constructive feedback. Now there are infact, hidden forums on Subsim that are speicific for "teams" of modders like Sh3's GWX. None of it is transparent to subsim users.. Tmaru's however, should be. Any technical discussions or brainstorming going on, people should be able to see those. Everyones goal should be to better the game we call Sh4, so i see no reason why knowledge should be kept secret.

Now, note i said, "contributing modders" as opposed to "team members". Granted there is alot of teamwork involved, but i feel one should feel free to walk away from the project at anytime. This is a game, not a real life commitment. Nobody should be admonished for having RL take priority over the project (been there, done that, its BS).

Of course, and unfortunatly there has to be a "publisher", and i know im pretty much nominated. Another unfortuante aspect of this is that the "publisher" has to make final decisions on the direction of the mod. So this person may say something like, "I like this part, but not this part, and this might need more work". Now it doesnt have to be me, id be more then happy to step aside from that position. Infact id much rather focus on one little thing, and not one BIG thing.

By doing it this way, you capitalize on indiviual modders strengths, as all modders are really good at something, but not other things. Nobody takes on too large of a chunk of the work, so hopefully nobody gets burnt out, efforts are coordinated, and the game prospers. Theres only one catch.... when something in the mod doesnt work right, its you the modder they scream at, and that can get unfun, pretty fast. So if you worked on it, it sets you up as a target for questioning as adhoc tech support.


Now all of this is assuming

a.) i feel up to this, and have the time
b.) Subsim supports it
c.) Marka_Ragnos agrees to continue to host the mod for D/L
d.) if certain modders are intrested. ( i have a mental list, that im not sharing right now :D )

But since there is no patch, that post, is just alot of hot air, with no substance. That and if one were to implement that idea, it gives the impression of further support and refinement of the mod, something of which i dont think i have the long term time for.

This is a year where its sink or swim for me in california. The cost of living here is getting to high, and its to the point where 25-50 dollars means make ends meet or fall behind. Waiting on the spousal type unit to a.) get her health up , b.) get out of debt. If she can get her excrement together then its off to Schneiders training acadamny in Fontana. Else, i think we might move out of state (probaly arkansa where she has family), she continues medical, and i drive OTR long enough to pay my dues to get a regional job/route where id be home once a week, or maybe even every night or every other night if i could get a local job/route.

Not really, KFM kicked off with his phone calls that spurned speculation that in fact there is a patch as told by UBI customer service. Ducimus was on the receiving side and ran with the ball down field in hopes of a touchdown(concrete evidence). On the sidelines, the coaches are formulating the final play of the game. So far, the coaches have not revealed the game winning play. Only have they acknowledged there is a final game play to win the superbowl. Be sure, the clipboard is full of game winning plays and then some.

Patch 1.4...for me the only things in it should be natural looking sea,lesser planes and(here comes the reason why i didn't play sh4 since weeks now!)...starting positions closer to nip-land.
(i am already bored before reaching the danger zone:dead: :dead: and don't start about time comp. it falls back to 1 each time a blind jap pilot crosses your path at a few miles from your location(up to 20 times after each other))

The issue of there being a patch 1.4 is not what is important to me - it's whether such a patch actually fixes what I consider to be the biggest realism issues.

Based on the first 3, I'm not expecting much (and I still don't play SHIV any more, SHIII being miles ahead in realism).

Exactly ! Without patch 1.4 addressing existing bugs.Example: No crew slots when installing deck gun Fwd.ect.SHIV,might as well be flushed.The modding community keeps waiting to see a foundation unchanging to build on.Auto saves,do not overwrite equipment upgrades correctly,There is talk of memory leaks as large as 3 gigs.Will all this be resolved,OR are we just sucking hind-tit,waiting ?? SHIV,has a dim future if it gets no attention to the original game install working as intended.

On a positive note, I just upgraded my computer and reinstalled SH 4 after a few months layoff. With patch 1.3, vanilla game, it is still a very enjoyable and beautiful simulation.

I was kinda hoping they would add in more allied subs, Naultilus for example, or perhapse some british boats(i read somewhere the the RN operated subs out of Freemantle). Was never really interested in the Kriegsmarine tho i'm shure i'll take some of their subs out for a spin (wonder if they'll chuck in a type XXI:D ).

They have worked quietly, behind the scenes, with members of this community from long, long before the release, and continue to do so to this day.

Not the type of company that takes revenge... although with some of the behaviour I have witnessed I would not blame them if they did.

Well for those interested here is the part we all want to here from KFM (a legend in his own mind):
My contact explained that patch v1.4 will be in fact an add-on plus a patch. Yes, you heard right!
So then, I asked him what kind of improvements it was going to contain, he said that it is a German Campaign in the Pacific Ocean (Far East) with a couple of new (German) subs and ships models. Of course with the appropriately developed locales.
As I felt somewhat surprised, I asked him once more if I heard right. I asked him if he was mistaken and if it was actually a Japanese Campaign that he meant. His answer came before I'd finished pronouncing my sentence, it was, "No, we found out the Japanese submarines did not have much of an impact in the PTO. Hence our choice for the Germans." Further, I asked him that besides the add-on, if there would be fixes to already known issues and problems. He emphatically replied that a great many would be fixed but that for the time being, he could not detail it as his department only covers certain aspects of the patch. However, he added at the end that the mission loop will be assuredly fixed along with, unless Dan Dimitrescu changes his mind, inconsistencies in many of the multiplayer modes.
I said it in another post (the one locked down http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/shady.gif ), the release date is roughly a month away. Ubisoft's official announcement should be made shortly, either within the week or next week as it was initially the deadline given to me by my contact almost three weeks ago.
Since I have had SHIV Collectors Edition from a pre order it has gotten a bit dusty, brand new never used, I may soon have to eat my words & Install the game ..... unless it's a scam!:lol:

Actually from where I sit Ubisoft has acted pretty honorably all the way along (forgetting the rushed release).

They have funded the original release, 4 patches, have listened to the community, responded to their requests, have ignored threats of boycotts, lawsuits, phone blitzes, e-mail blitzes, personal insults, temper tantrums and all manner of immature foolishness and just continued to improve the game. They have worked quietly, behind the scenes, with members of this community from long, long before the release, and continue to do so to this day.

Not the type of company that takes revenge... although with some of the behaviour I have witnessed I would not blame them if they did.

The antics of Inspector Clouseau has given us endless entertainment value though. From his demanding of a patch that was two months into development when he demanded it, to his wonderful 'scoop' where he revealed some of the 'Add On' details without understanding much of what he'd scooped.

I can't wait for the rerun on A&E. :D
