Evenin shipmates,

I have just reinstalled sh3 and patched to 1.4b. My problem is I cannot get the res fix working again, using sartori23's batch files and his MS compat app formula for SP2. I know it works as I've used it in the past, not sure if it's something to do with the latest Netframework updates.... I have tried both MS Application Compatibilty 4.1 and 5.0, same result, res won't shift from 1024x768. I must be doing something wrong but it's been sooooooo long since my last fresh install. Even worked fine with GWX. If any of you chaps have some spare time whilst on shore leave I'd love to hear from you.

Specs:
XP Pro + SP2 + all updates.
SH3 up to 1.4b main.cfg changed to 1600x1200
Asus P5N32-E SLI mobo
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @ 2.66
2xGainward Bliss 8800GTX
Drivers Forceware vs 162.18
2G Corsair TwinX Dominator
DX 9.0c (august 2007 rls)
Samsung Syncmaster 214T LCD (Native res 1600x1200)
3x Seagate Barracuda hdd
Nothing Overclocked

Any and all help much appreciated.
Best regards.

Don't bother with the MSACT program, to much trouble.

Read this thread - http://www.subsim.com/radioroom/showthread.php?t=122646

Look for my posts & link. Instructions follow in the subsequent posts.

Soz, too lazy to repost it all here.

EDIT - Changing the Main.cfg won't do anything. Use the readme in my download.

danlisa:

Thanks for the prompt reply, tried this before but retried after another fresh install, what the hey. Alas still fixed at 1024x 768. I don't know what gives. Followed your instructions implicitly. Like I said I've succesfully had this fixed before, never worked using the batch file tho ! Now even the mscompat fails me. Changed the d3d9.cfg as spec'd, but nothing, now I'm trully flumoxed  Any ideas ?

FWIW the save screenshot path is not working either so something must be afoot !
Best regards.

Edit - Have you returned the Main.cfg to the default settings?

If you are really having trouble with this, there must be a file conflict somewhere or the MSACT program has actually partially changed something.

If you have dowloaded the files I supplied.....

In the downloaded archive you have:

d3d9.cfg
Readme.txt
SHIII.sdb
SP2 Rez Fix Uninstall.bat
SP2 Rez Fix.bat

Copy ALL of these into the SH3 Program Folder.

1) Run SP2 Rez Fix.bat
2) Then open d3d9.cfg & set the resolution & screenshot path.

If some of these files are already present in your SH3 Program folder, delete them and start fresh.

Just for completeness, remember the rez is only changed when in game, the menu's will not be changed.

BTW, are you a 32 or 64 bit sytem. As it seems some 64bit's have trouble using this bat file.

Hi danlisa,

Indeed they are the files downloaded via your link, all were placed in the sh3 dir as instructed. Like I say it is a fresh install ( uninstalled and rem dir etc. before I just grabbed your files ). Run resfix and changed d3d9.cfg as per ins, also made a screenie path, alas no go. Using 32-bit. Is it possible I can post you my .cfg here so you can check all is well, many thanks.

Sure!

If we can't get to the bottom of it here, I think I can create a working res fix with the MSACT program and then upload them for you. I will explore this option later tonight.

It looks correct. There should be a space between the lines screenshotPath & [GAMMA] but that shouldn't make a difference.:-?

Would you be able to post a screengrab of your SH3 Program folder (in list/detailed view), it might help.

Also, have you tried a different rez, maybe 1280 x 1024.

It's very strange. Almost as if the SHIII.sdb is not being written to when you run the Install.bat. BTW, does a cmd box flash up when you run the bat file?

Actually, later, rather than mess with the MSACT program, I can upload the file sets with the fix applied already and should only have to copy & paste. Worth a try and if it doesn't work after that, it must be a file issue on your PC but not related to SH3.

EDIT - Just tried to apply the fix to the files I have here but they won't work without SH3 being present. Will have to wait until I'm home.

Can do re the screenie, you want just the parent dir? haven't tried a different rezo but can do. The cmd box does flash up, but it's like lightning fast so I can't se what happens there, have also tried to apply the fix via run>cmd>blah sp2res fix, but it doesn't seem to want to happen that way. Forgot my old dos :( hehe.

FYI I don't have SH3 installed to my C: but it has never made a difference before.

eeps how do post a screenie ? LOL

Easiest way is to use this program (ScreenRip)- http://www1.progency.com/other.html

Save it as a JPEG and the visit IMAGESHACK (http://imageshack.us/) and then paste the image link here. Use the 'Direct link to image' URL found at the bottom of the page after you have uploaded the image.

Tell you what, I have enough installs available to apply the rez fiz to. So I'll apply the fix with your chosen settings and then upload the files for you to just copy & paste into you installation. Like I said, if it doesn't work after that, it must be something else on your system.

Probably about 1-2hrs before I can do that though.

Here you go, try this - http://rapidshare.com/files/61625791/Fubar_Res_Fix.7z.html

Just extract it & put the files into the program folder. Do not run the bat file as I have already done so and have also put your desired res/screenshot path into the cfg file.

Copy & run the game.

Note - This is for Fubar only!

danlisa,

Many thanks for your work, unfortunately I'm still stuck @ 1024x768  Screenies are still not saving to the correct dir either, rather , they're still being saved in the install dir. Total wierdness, do you think it may be because the game is installed to a different drive rather than the default c: ? I'm sure I have never installed to my c: before and all worked fine.

Best regards,

Fubar

OK now things have got really wierd. The problem has nothing to do with the fact it's not installed on c: Just reinstalled on c: and the prob persists. However, on clicking 'Start' at the mission selection screen I noticed the res visibly change. I have taken a screenie and this bares out my suspicion. It's only after I launch a mission the res drops back to 1024x768 !!!!!!!!! All the front end screens are 1600x1200, as shown in the link below.

Now I'm completely baffled :yep: .

Does this make any sense to you ?
Don't see why it should be, but, maybe a video driver thing you think ?

Ok, there is a possibilty that your GFX control panel is over riding the changes but I'm not familiar with nVidia panels. I find it odd that the menu's have changed but the ingame rez has not. Check out the Direct X setting inside your nVidia control Panel.

Also, have you still edited the main.cfg file? Maybe it's causing the weirdness.

For me, the reverse happens. The menu's remain @ 1024x768 but the ingame rez changes. It's certainly confusing me.

Hi danlisa,

Thanks for the quick response, the main.cfg I have left unchanged as you suggested yesterday. Regarding checking Directx setting, I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Could you explain please, so I can cross reference the nvid control panel.

Best regards,

Fubar

Well, like I said, I'm not familiar with nVidia but SH3 uses DirectX rather than OpenGL as a rendering engine.

So, within your GFX Panel, there should be separate options/settings for both engines. Look for the DirectX section and see if there is anything that 'jumps' out at you. It's unlikely but maybe possible and is certainly worth checking.

Failing that, I would suggest that you try to find another 8800 user to see if they have ever experienced this. Could be driver related but I'm sure you would notice other things wrong if it was.

I still can't think what might be limiting the actual resolution when the game enters 3d rendering (i.e ingame). The res fix is working, otherwise the menu's wouldn't have changed, so there must be something limiting the 3D/game render part.:-?

danlisa,

I don't know I'm jiggered, I've checked nvid control panel but nothing there to choose either opengl or dx directly. I don't think it's an 8800 thing, as it ran before :damn: I'll try changing drivers, see what happens and report back. Only other thing I can try is running end-it-all, see if that kills the offending gremlin. Thanks again for your help and support.

I think you have to get to the advanced settings by way of the Control Panel in XP.

Once there, you can open the nVidia Panel and there should be an option for Advanced settings. Just going from memory here. <shrug>

Calling other 8800 users.

danlisa,

Yep I accessed Advance Settings but there is no option to choose, an older forceware driver may have it tho. I'll try, I have got to get this working :yep:

FWIW. End-it-all didn't help, LOL

Well after 4 different driver versions and 3 more fresh installs, I'm still where I started. :damn:

Thanks for trying danlisa, but looks like I'm stuck with it
