Well I'm a new owner of SHIV, but as soon as I put it in my NEC DVDRW-3550 drive it doesn't even read the disk to install. I haven't any virtual drives on my rig.:damn: Any help would be appreciated.

Did you install the drivers for the drive as well ?

Well everything else I installed with my DVD RW drive has worked with Windows XP Pro supplied drivers and I'm using Nero 7 demo to burn with. Just SHIV hasn't towed the line.

If you're installing from a burned disc, then buy the game. It's worth it.

I've bought the retail disk and I am just trying to install it on my rig. My SHIII retail disk installs, but the SHIV will not even read.
My NEC DVD-RW 3550 is the only DVD optical drive I have. Nero 7 was installed after I tried to install SHIV and tried after installing Nero 7, so there shouldn't be the cause of the conflict. Do I need a different DVD optical drive that hasn't the capability of burning disks to install the game?

Not to my knowlege, no. I have a similar drive and Nero installed as well, but it's worked fine for me. Your disc isn't scratched is it? Can you try installing on another computer?

Similar problem here "Tank" with a similar drive as well. Except my problem was that SH4 would install ok, but when I tried to run the game it wouldn't recognize the original retail game disk. Patch 1.03 solved the problem for me (fyi, no disk required in the drive after patch v1.03). Yes I have Nero installed on my machine as well but have XP Home for an OS.
Wish there was more help I could offer you, but I have absolutely no idea what caused my problem in the first place either. Like you, I had no other problems/issues installing or using any other software before or since (for the record, only personally purchased retail software used on my machine).
You have no idea how much this issue frustrated me, thankfully it eventually solved itself via the 1.03 patch. Have you tried to contact UBI customer support?
Good luck with this, will keep my fingers crossed for 'ya. :yep:

I sent a signal flare to UBI support and waiting on my raft for rescue, hope my water holds out. lol
The retail disk is pristine, and I'll look into another computor to test soon. Also I updated my firmware, no joy.:damn:
Ty all for the help

sober . . . ahemmm . . . "Mr. President" ;)
In order to install patch v1.03, "Tank" has to get the game to install first. :yep:
(Please forgive my attempt at humor, no disrespect intended, just having a bit of fun with your signature.)

A mate of mine bought a game once, and packed inside were blank disks. They were official disks with labels and all, they just hadn't been written to.

I had a similar problem with another game, where i could load up other cd's just not that particular one, even tho it had loaded before. I tried it on another computer and it was able to read it so i deduced it had to be the drive itself. Still dont know what it is to this day as i have since bought a new laptop.

Well I exchanged the retail disk at the store and got another of the same, no joy.
On my explorer for my DVD drive it shows nothing at all, just like if I did not have a disk in it. Arrrrrrrgh:damn:
I will not give up just yet UBI is wrestling this beast with me.

Your drive may be fried...
Will it read other DVD media?

Just a thought......load the disk and shut down the computer. Restart. Normally the disk drive will spool up looking for a disc...as if perhaps you are reloading the entire operating system after you reformatted. Give that a try and maybe it will recognize the disk.

Ok, next little ditty, some drives allows you to adjust the optics to move closer to the disc or further away. I had read another post that this individual was having issues like yours. He adjusted the optic piece to be closer to the disc. After he did this all discs were read.
Also and just to be sure, did you go into My Computer and right click the drive you have the disc in? Attempt autoplay by right clicking on drive icon?
I always have a plain vanilla DVD Read Only Optical Drive around for installing such things. Makes life so much easier. Just plug it in for the affair then remove it and your done.

Installed SHIII first, hmm Starforce at it again?
