And please read this information pack, mean while a in Romania crime has fallen and in the words of a police chief there all moved to England. OK, back on track, Well this sounds interesting I wonder what goodies will be in the pack to read. :hmm:

Welcome to Britain... but please don't eat the fish: Immigrants get DOs and DON'Ts pack

Migrants will be given information packs warning them not to drink-drive or steal fish from rivers.

The pamphlets will set out a series of rights and responsibilities to help arrivals "get to grips with what is expected of them, from national laws to local traditions". Government officials said the advice would also set out guidelines on social norms such as tolerance and understanding of other faiths and communities.

Don't get me wrong I'm not against it but I feel this will be another cock up of by this government, after you read the first few lines this may happen. Please put it in the hands of someone who knows what they are doing.

the problem I see with the new lot of migrant workers from eastern europe is unlike the ones who stayed after the war they stick in their own groups so you will get ghettoes.

We have about 15 Polish workers and only a couple of them have decent english. We had a day out at an activity centre and at the end they all sat at their own table and didn't come into the bar to drink with us. Ok so they might only be here a couple of years but if they stay and do the same what's going to happen?

That's no big problem with migrant workers who only stay for a few months.

It could be a problem with long term migrants. It depends on weather they are forced
into low wage work and poverty.
There are some city areas that contain foreign cultures that are good and some that are
in a terrible state.

If weekly wages continue to drop and the local populace blame it on the influx of foreign workers, I can see potential problems ahead :hmm:

Yeah, New Labour (post-2000 anyway) are far too eager to strip away civil liberties :-?

(wow, me agreeing with STEED :D)

This reminds me of the brainwave of putting signs up reading "Dont Commit Crime"

Migrants will be expected to place greater emphasis on learning English.

Shouldnt this be a requirement? Nevermind an emphasis on learning English, they should at least know basic English before they even come here.

Tchocky,

Did you see the government and councils have the right to snoop on your phone calls and nothing on the TV news, saw an article in the Times newspaper buried on page 10 or 11, what next I wonder?

Back on topic.....

As I pointed out some where on a thread the Labour government is now worried and concerned about all these folks coming in to this country and yet they don't seem to be doing much about about it, are they banking on those riots?

Either a immigrant is allowed to live in the UK because he/she has family here, is in
danger in his/her home country, is a member of the EU etc. etc. In which case you
can't deny him/her access to the UK because he/she doesn't speak English.

Or a immigrant is in the UK illegally, in which case he/she should be deported
regardless of language.

There aren't really any cases that are undecided where language could be a make or
break factor.

Once in the UK, most long term immigrants do want to learn English, but that isn't
always easy. The government cut funding to English classes a few years ago.:nope:

Jimbuna sleeping on a scruffy mattress on a school gymnasium floor in the Knotty Ash area of Liverpool with a HM Prison issue blanket for warmth and a pillow borrowed from House of Fraser store (with orders not to pierce the polythene cover because it was to be returned later for re-sale) :damn:

Sheer luxury ;)
