Are steering wheels ever used with sub games vs. just the keyboard and if so, what type is best to use? I am new to this and recently wanted to start with something simple. I got a copy of Steel Tide, which I know is an old game, but I was told it would be a easy "starter" game. I went to Ebay and saw various PC game steering wheels, but the ones that looked sort of interesting to me are the flight sim steering wheels which look like half a steering wheel. I thought maybe that by using one you could tilt the wheel forward to dive and backwards to surface. Maybe such a thing does not even exist for sub games. I appreciate any help you can offer. Thanks.

Well if there is controller configuration i dont see why it shouldnt work, if i had that game i could give it a try with the wheel i have.

I've never heard of it being done, and I've never seen it done.
The thing about subsims is that you won't be doing a lot of steering. Approaches, lookout, and plotting out solutions or TMAs are going to be the gist of the game, along with operating sensors. Seriously, most of the time, you'll be giving out course orders by laying weapons or clicking on the compass.
If you HAVE to get a wheel, for naval simulations in general, get one that doesn't spring back to the center when you let it go. Much less annoying, in my personnal opinion.

Theres a game called virtual sailor and in that game i use a joy stick to controll speed and movement of the rudder, some do use flight yokes and others steering wheels thats the only place i know that uses them.
