View Full Version : Veoh video service just went downhill big time...

Like, what are they thinking? The streaming video just got capped to 20 min, unless you have their stupid client. On top of this, you can't download video longer than 20 minutes now, and if you try to upload something longer, all you get is a 5 minute preview along with a link to watch the streaming version of it, but no download capability. To make matters worse (Actually, this is my biggest pet peeve), the original file format is not avaialble. The downloads are all converted to flv before you can download them (This ticks me off!). The downloads are not at full 30 FPS either - they are at a rather lame 15 FPS. They just took the best video streaming service and killed it. I seriously doubt anyone will want to use them much anymore, especially with their rather lame client and rather lame FPS capability.
YouTube is now officially a better service, but still doesn't do what I need it to do. Stage 6 is where I think I need to go now unless someone has a better idea?

Is there any way to use it without using Divx? I want my Xvid, and Stage 6 seems to force Divx down your throat!

Again I ask - Is there any way to use it without using Divx? Xvid is the MPEG-4 codec of MPEG-4 codecs, and Divx seems to take over your system, forcing Xvid to the back burner.

No, DivX only.
"take over your system"?
What software did you get?

What software did you get? Standard Divx. I prefer Xvid since it has some more advanced features over Divx, including Quarter Pixel capability and Global Motion Compensation. However, if I have both installed at the same time, and try to play back something using advanced features, Divx takes over and chokes! It can't handle it. So this is why I ask. Let me see if I can reprogram direct X. I might be able to redo the way things are handled.
I may have found a competing service to Stage 6 by the way - Guba. This site apparently allows for HQ videos as well. http://www.guba.com/home_free I'll be testing.

Im not sure what you mean by divx takes over and chokes? if something is encoded with xvid shouldnt it allso be decoded with xvid. Anyway you only need the divx player to watch content streaming off the site, if you download it you cna use what ever you like, media player classic in my case.
As for quality, you are only limited to a max file size of 2gb on stage6

Divx can't decode or encode GMC or QP. That is it's major issue. I also don't think the quality on standard encoding is up to par either.

Fair point. Personaly im happy with the quality and mostly the interface on stage6, being able to watch something streaming full screen there is great imo. My main problem with guba and Veoh has allways been the use of flash.
