View Full Version : Save game question
Recently I started playing in real time when in visual site of enemy vessels (I used to TC a low rate just to keep things moving) and have found it very rewarding, especially during DC attacks using the surround sound.
The problem comes in that I only typically have about 1 hour to play at any given time (not a lot of time when ships are sinking).
Does damage to vessels carry over after loading a save, or more importantly do I retain credit for the damage that has been done when loading a save. I am concerned about putting a coupe of fish into a merchant that wants to take its sweet time sinking thus requiring a save game for me then not getting credit for it.
Any help is appreciated.
My experience is: no , you don't get credit after a reload.
My last experience was a wonderful convoy, 2 sunk and 2 wounded to death, I saved and went to bed.
Next day I loaded and wanted to watch the final steps of my success. They sunk, but I got no tonnage credit for it. :(
I reloaded again and shelled one of them with the deck gun, that worked for me. :)
Saving while submerged can also lead to problems.

You get no credit/renown for sinking a vessel until you receive the message 'she's going down' :arrgh!:

As far as I have seen it does, and I do save a lot in the middle of the action. But some reports indicate that reloading a save may lose some information sometimes.

You get credit only once you get the "she's going down" message - which indicates that the ship is irreversibly sinking. At that point the credit shows in the patrol log page - even if it may still take some time for the ship to fully sink. Once you get the entry in the log, the credit is yours and saving/reload won't change that :arrgh!:.

Thanks, I know I don't get credit until you get the she's going down message. The main question I have is a lot of times I have inflicted damage from lets say 2 fish. The ship continues to take damage on a time basis due to flooding or fire. There is a time between the initial infliction of damage and the point of irrecoverable sinking "shes going down" message. If I save during this period, go to bed, and then reload, does the game remember that I inflicted this damage as the ship is flooding or does it just continue to flood and sink without giving me any credit?
Thanks,
BT

Plain: No.
It's like the ship was sunk in a storm. No credit for you.
I think its a MUST, that the last inflicted damage after a reload was caused by your boat.

Thanks, I kind of figured this was the case. I guess I will have to trust the ship to the XO during these times (assuming I'm not being DC) :D

I'm in a similar situation to you Btaft and only get limited time playing SH3/GWX and have to save regularly. The save game bug that affects credit for sinking ships is a pain especially when I need to do something else and need to save when involved in attacking a convoy etc. I just have to put the other things off and wait for those ships to go down. The other bugs, like saving submerged have never really affected me, but perhaps I'm just lucky.

It can be a pain...at least for me the only thing that is affected is the amount of sleep I get :D
The other quirk that is anoying is the affect it has on the weather changing. If I am not mistiaking, each time you load a save it resets the "timer" on when the weather can change again

To be honest I'm not entirely convinced of this. I have loaded saves where the weather has been bad to find within an hour of real time, with SH3 at no higher than 128TC, the weather has changed. Having said that, I am currently travelling north east near the coast of north west Africa where the weather has been atrocious for weeks.

Wow! :o
I didn't know that about the credit for sinking and a save game bug! Thanks for talking about this guys! Now I know!
Me: "What?"
Wife: "There's a thunderstrom coming!"
Me: "So what?"
Wife: "So you need to shut your computer down!"
Me: "Not only no, but hell no! I'm in the middle of sinking a convoy!"
Wife: "You can always save your silly game......."
Me: "It's a SIM not a GAME! Besides there's this Save Game bug and I won't shut down if I can-"
*BOOM*
Me: "Ah hell, there goes the power."
Wife: *walks away with a smirk* "I told you so! Now you've more than likely destroyed your computer over a game."
Me: "It's a SIM! Simulator! Not a game!"

As "somebody" told me, ... and I was forced to learn (the hard way):
you earn money wit it: call it SIM
you enjoy it: call it GAME
which means: earning money is not to be allowed to make fun... sorry, but that is it.
