Hej
I have map up date and WO solution on.
I messure range on map, determine AOB by clicking on targets future course then on target then on my sub position and messure the angle.
I estimete target speed with 3,15 minute rule.
Open torpedo doors updateing bearing via periscope.
FIRE
Still the torpedo misses a stern???
WHY.
What am I missing here.

Based on your description, the first thing that comes to mind is that you might be confusing port AOB with starboard AOB. This would cause the torpedo offset angle to be behind the target.

When you measure angle on the bow as you described, note the side of the target you are looking at. If you are looking at the target's left side and it is crossing your bow to the left, it is port (red) AOB. The reverse, if you are looking at the target's right side and it is crossing your bow to the right, it is starboard (green) AOB.

Another possibility is the way you are inputing your AOB into the TDC. The target is constantly moving so the AOB changes very rapidly, thus your angle may be wrong by the time you input it. I always use the AOB at the intercept point of my course with that of the target's course. This angle is constant. Go to the UZO/scope and place it at zero bearing. Now, enter the AOB of intercept point. Any rotation of the scope will now yield the correct AOB at any bearing.

Try these ideas and then post again.

Are you using steam powered torpedos in daylight. I sometimes find that ships will vary their speed if the torpedo wake is visible.

Or they start zig-zags if they sense your presence (periscope spotted?) Zig-zags will ruin your firing solution if you are not aware of them..

Make sure you click on the torp speed dial...if changing from a t1 (44knt) to a t2 (30knts) the solution for the slow torp will be for 44knts and will miss also to the rear.

Basically there is a bug...everytime you change torp tubes click on the torp speed dial to fix...I do and it works everytime.

Warships in particular! Fire on a destroyer in calm seas and good daylight with a steam torp. and watch with the external camera - they slam the throttles into the war-time emergency power zone as soon as they pick up the torpedo's wake.
