I can't remember if SH4 gave me 1280 x 1024 @ 75 hz with my CRT monitor, 'cause if I look in the graphic setting I only get 1280x1024 @ 60 hz for the highest setting with my LCD monitor ( in game ). My Video display is set @ 1280 x 1024 @ 75 hz an the LCD shows it @ 75 hz. If something changed since changing to the LCD is there a way to force 75 hz?

Here's the line from the main.cfg from the doc & settings folder:
Resolution=1280,1024,60,22

Could I change it to:
Resolution=1280,1024,75,22

What does the 22 mean??

LCD monitors only need 60Hz - you dont need to run it at 75.

What does the 22 mean?? Yes, you can change it. The worst thing that can happen is that the game will not start, in which case you can change it back to 60.

22 is the internal value (C++ enum) that DirectX uses to identify the color depth of 32 bits.

The game asks DirectX about the supported resolutions of the monitor. If DirectX says it can't start in 1280*1024*75Hz, the option does not appear in the game's menu.

Yep and if you try going to 75, it'll probably go blank and give you a frequency out of range error message.

Been there done that with the first LCD screen I had :oops:

Why not? I just had to buy a new LCD, and while it will go up to 75Hz, the "optimal" setting is 60Hz. I left it on 60, but my bro-in-law has always said the higher the better, so I'd like to know why you say not.

I prefer to run my LCD monitor at 70Hz. For some reason, I tend to get headaches using 60Hz.

SH4 does give me the option to run at 75Hz, but I don't see the point of having it up that high.

its because of the way CRT's and LCD's refresh the image on the screen

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Refresh_rate

high refresh rates are better for CRT's but a waste for LCD,s

Hi Go4It

I would recomend having a read of this article at

---> http://www.tweakguides.com/Graphics_1.html

it's really worth it - it's well written and easy to understand :rock:

it gives an excellent insite into how a game gets from your hard drive to being displayed on your CRT or LCD screen and all the factors along the way that have an effect. It will give you the information you require and an appreciation of what settings do what and why :up:

so matey to use your name Go4It :88)

I believe this is because 60 hz is right at the edge of where the human eye can still detect the flicker. Especially with a CRT (I guess with an LCD as well), and with bright colors.

With my old CRT, anytime I played at 60 hz, I could notice the flickering or pulsing of the bright colors. Some people argue it isn't there, you can't see it, etc. But it most certainly is there, and noticable. I wouldn't waste my time 'imagining it'.

And I always wanted to play at higher resolutions, but I couldn't because at higher res, my monitor would only do 60 hz.

If you were getting headaches at 60hz, it's because your optic nerve was pulsing with the refresh flicker, even if you didn't consciously realize it.

I tried 60 hz on my LCD an it's jittery in game an playing DVD's, at 75 hz it's runs perfect.

The only big difference I notice by changing an LCD refresh rate from 60 to 70+ is to increase framerates a bit if they've been cut in half by having V-Sync on due to tearing.
