View Full Version : Bad save game file?

Night before last, I was in my type IXB, U-108, on patrol in AL-14. Weather was great, nothing really showing up. Once my 24 hours was up, I plotted a course to head south. Due to the lateness of the hour, I saved and exited to get some sleep.

Yesterday morning, after coffee and errands are done, I loaded up that career. Here's the problem:

As soon as the career loads, my boat is in a crash dive, doing 96 knots!!!
Needless to say, we all die rather quickly! I of course reloaded, and it does it again, and again, and again!

So that career is down the tubes so to speak. I was trying to figure out what happened as when I saved, there was absolutely nothing wrong. We were on the surface, it's night, calm seas doing about 10 knots.....

So, I started up yet another career..

Anyone else have stuff like this happen to them?

I was, but after doing some reading, I rolled back my files and got rid of it a while ago.

Think it still did it's damage?

Strange, as Jimbuna, I also thought it maybe was SH Weather.

It could have, especially if you didn't perform a rollback before deleting the file.

There's a mine of information in this thread

I have had the fast crash dive at load up of a save game also ... was using SH3 weather of course but don't any more....... you don't have to lose the whole carreer ... just start the game using SH3 shortcut on desktop and load a " in base before mission " ............ you'll just lose what you had after that time ...........

SH3 weather changes the *.mis file or something like that in your SH3 ( in my Documents folder ) in the campaign folder ( if you have a backup BEFORE using SH3 weather of your campaign .. just replace that file )

I really find it hard to believe that u boats operated in hurricanes or typhoons as the boat would be bobbing around the ocean like a cork and almost impossile to get any bearing on a target ...... but maybe they did ..... my hat off to them with respect if they could .............

Weather forecasting was nothing then like it is now. Some U-boats were actually tasked with 'weather watching' duties (not popular with the crews).
Often whilst mid Atlantic or wherever, a boat would get caught up in extreme weather conditions (which rendered its offensive capabilities useless) and lose lookouts as a result as well as having to dive to give the crew some respite and enjoy a meal or some form of nourishment.

At least they had the option to submerge, go deep, surface vessels were not so lucky.

Thought back on this.....yep, I didn't roll back when I got rid of SH3 Weather!

Thanks for the opinions too!

I remember doing a replenishment during some heavy seas once. It was with a carrier and while we (USS MacDonough) were being tossed around something bad, those buttheads up on the flight deck were standing there with their coffee cups pointing and laughing........ :nope:

Andy, had the same problem yesterday (was annoyed because I just sunk a tasty medium cargo.. biggest thing taken down yet (after reloading my career). Just edited the "wind speed" line in the three .mis files, reloaded my old save game and everything is fine.

Hmmmmmmm :hmm: I'll have to keep this in mind if it happens again then! Thanks!

I had already lost my previous save game/career due to this.. then, before throwing in the towel and doing a reinstall, I did a little searching and then remembered that I had seen this bug mentioned before, and the solution, just hadn't encountered it so it didn't click.

In the three .mis files the windspeed number will be =0. If it is, just change them all to 1 or something, save the files and reload your save game and it should be sweet. They all should be fixed and working. I'm going to keep SH3Weather generator going at the moment and see how often this happens. If it's too much of a pain in the butt, I'll uninstall the darn thing.. but for the mo it's fine I recon.
