hi
i am a noob just starting off with GWX. got 2 questions please folks.
1) when is next version GWX coming out? if at all?
2) should i consider installing any mini mods on top of GWX? (so far only SH3Commander and Sobers 3d waves. any others?)
many thanks!

#1 ---------- the GWX modders will have to answer that one.
#2 --------- Depends on what you would like out of the sim. There are several mini mods that will run just fine with the current version of GWX (SH3 Commander and Weather mod among them). So think about what it is that you'd like to change and either search for a mod that changes it, or ask about it here

First of all Welcome to SubSim:up:
The answers to your questions now:
1. GWX 1.04 will re released to the public when it's ready ;)
2. As a rule of thumb you can use "graphical" mods (Skins etc) in GWX without any problems. If you use mods that alter the game engine and mechanics you're looking for trouble really.
The next version will be released when it is ready.
The mods you choose to add on after installing GWX are up to you.

Hi guys.
1) It will be ready when it is ready. As much as we'd like to set a public release date, potential developmental snags cannot be accounted for and must be reacted to as they occur to ensure the mod continues to meet our own standards.
2) Read up on all mods created outside the GWX dev team and use them at your own risk. There are literally hundreds of additional mods out there that we (The GWX devs) cannot answer for. Many of them break GWX. Though your game may continue to function and not give you something obvious like a CTD... ALL unofficial "GWX compatible" mods may be used only at your own risk. We cannot offer user support for them, and if your installation is broken as a result, we may well advise you to completely reinstall SH3/GWX from the ground up. (Not trying to be un-cool here. Things are what they are though.)
Good hunting.:ping:
[Edit: My apologies Tarjak & Mel.. simultaneous cross-post]
Mel is mostly right concerning sound and graphics mods. However ANYTHING that contains a .dat file can be considered to be high-risk at the least... and very frequently may cause CTD's when that element is called on by the game engine. This will be especially true when we release GWX 1.04.

hey guys
personally speaking, i cannot wait for GWX1.04. silent hunter 3 is an absolutely awesome game, and GWX 1.03 is an absolutely awesome mod. i log on this morning, and theres like nearly 100 people viewing this forum, so the popularity is still there. so please accept my hearty encouragement as you continue development - the next release is eagerly anticipated! :)
regarding which mini mods to use, is there a weather mod that randomises the weather a little more that i can use with GWX? also, is there any mini mods which fix issues with GWX/vanilla? for example, i came across a post the other day where a guy was complaining about being spotted whilst using the snorkel. and the reply was like 'look for the snorkel/radar fix or something.' so basically im interested in a weather mod, and any mods which provide extra fixes, if u guys got any recommendations?
thanks!
Just out of curiosity... is there a political correctness to issuing revision numbers?
1.04 vs. 1.4 for instance?
...would a mod ever qualify as a 2.0?
...or is it just at the general discretion of the developer?

Didn't know if the GWX folks were looking for this sorta stuff...

Was the over-large radar cross section of the snorkel head reduced by GWX?... Yes it has been reduced... though it still detectable by enemy radar, albeit with lesser effectiveness. We are purposefully allowing it to remain as a radar-detectable object.
I do not recommend the stand-alone weather mod. (authored by "Skweetis") It was left in an unfinished state that produced some odd (bad) side effects. I do not recall the specifics of the bad side effects. Use it at your own risk.
