View Full Version : Pictures of the USS Drum SS228
Florida Sailor

I made a visit to the Drum in Mobile recently and have posted the pictures here:

There are 4 pages in the album, mostly inside shots. I thought you might find them interesting. I was at the boat when tropical depression 10 hit nearby. As I was the only one foolish enough to go out in the rain, I had the boat to myself for the 3 hours I was able to spend there. Enjoy the pix.
The site for the Drum itself is here:

Simply gorgeous....you got some really good shots of the instruments and their details. It was fun to study the replication from actual to simulation, very, very cool. I appreciate you posting those, thank you.:)

Thank you for posting, really really interesting.
the TDC looks totally different!
Does it mean that you can set fwd and aft solutions seperately and have BOTH maintained by the 'computer'?
Thanks!

she does look like she is in great shape, but the rust is unbelievable (aft and fwd sections)
Is she well taken care of?

You can tell that that boat is missing a lot of parts that were on the origional boat and unfortunately there is a lot of "stuff" that is there that shouldnt be.
1. Wardroom table is not origional
2. Mess tables are not origional
3. Periscope handles are missing
1. F Torpedo room has fencing around the tubes...yuk
2. trash can (plastic) in the torpedo room ???
3. Fencing around the conning tower hatch ???
Best sub I ever saw was the one in Cleavland last year. Very accurate.
