ive read some complaints about AI in GWX being uber, but that won't be my point. i think it might have some issues, or how do you explain these observations:

1) british frigate searching for me in shallow water at night. i leave my periscope up a moment too long, so the strafing searchlight spots it - the ship clearly discovers it as the spotlight rests on my boat until i manage to lower the periscope, MG bullets go into the water near me.
however, as i keep on my Schleichfahrt, the frigate stays on course and keeps searching in the area behind me, apparently not taking into account that my periscope being 500 meters to their right must include my u-boat being there as well.

2) 4 destroyers in a task force, i sneak and fail - one destroyers notices my presence, i try to flee. the single destroyer pings me, throws some DCs - but the other 3, being rather lazy, don't even change their course to hunt me down in a group.
what went wrong? radio and all morse lights broken on that destroyer?

"Broken"?

My dear sir, nothing could be further from the truth, the GWX AI is not broken by any stretch. A lot of time was spent on it, and from my own research since joining the team, I have to say, great care was taken in its contruction.

I managed to evade 6 destroyers in 1945 in a badly damaged XXI during one of my test patrols. I managed to escape, by the skin of my teeth only, AND I cheated using the external cam to help. Without that I'd probably have snuffed it given how high my realism was at the tiem.

1) What year are you in? The AI is adjusted to vary accordingly sounds to me from that you are early war 1939 or 1940 at latest given what you describe. Chances are you pulled your scope down quick so the frigate couldn't tell which way you were headed and frigates in early war dont have ASDIC. And you were on silent running so they would not have been able to hear you. The AI is modeled in GWX to simulate as accurately as possible with the tools available how ASW got better and better. Nothing sounds broken there.

2) how long were you playing this scenario? Cause given enough time the others would have come to attack. Again year is important, you don't say, so Im having to take guesses at what you are on about. In the early war its a given fact ASW was not very efficient and you sub captain SHOULD be able to run rings round them.

Sounds to me like everything is working perfectly. Also if you are going to offer feedback especially of such a serious nature as you suggest the AI is "broken" then a bit more detail than that would be far better.

EDIT: I think this is really ironic... most people complain the GWX AI is too smart rather than "broken"

Check around the forum and you'll find loads of threads and comments attributed to GWX. Tha vast majority of them positive and supportive.
We have never claimed it is perfect, but we do pride ourselves in the fact that it is the most played and best supported SH3 mod out there.
We strive to make it as historically accurate and immersive but at the same time playable and enjoyable for as many people as possible......quite a tall order I think you'll agree.
It's hard to please all the people all of the time, but very gratifying to please most of the people most of the time.
Might I suggest you read the accompanying manual, that will help you in your gameplay.

Good luck and ..... SINK EM ALL!! :arrgh!:

after reading many complaints about an overpowered GWX AI, i just wanted to add my own observations - no offense intended! :P
time is fall 41, mediterranean.

1) well the ship was really very close, a short sprint would have brought it practically over my head before i could do much. instead it kept running and searching at slow speed..

2) well i screwed up and eventually destroyed my already damaged boat by diving to 150m. until then, i watched the action (and the others speeding away) with external camera for quite a while..

just my very first experiences with hostile contacts so far. if everybody says the mod AI much better than SH3 vanilla, then who am i to disagree?

In convoys nearly all the escorts on your side will look for you
In Task forces only one tends to stay and the rest sail on
Stock behaviour

Of course at times everything in the TF will hunt you

There's nothing broken with the GWX escort's AI. However, every once in a while something weird may happen, just like in real life.

:D We even get zombie ships! Stick around and have Bernard help you. GWX is tops!

While you're mulling over the whole thing, read the GWX manual, then visit my site. This may help you to stay alive.
