View Full Version : Bench Stress test
Hi, could someone recommend a good program that will put the computer under stress for a given time?:yep: I have done some adjustments to RAM, Video, CPU & Bus speeds both in Bios & XP, all goes ok except after playing SHIII for around 1 hour the computer then locks with video displaying hazy lines & a buzz in the speakers, it's bad enough to change settings let alone play SHIII for an hour or so to test!
Any advise welcome.
Thanks,
Reece.

FSX

Sorry AL, I find nothing there other that references of how to destroy a PC with AK47's etc!:-?
FSX, I don't want another game to play, just a good benchmark type program, but thanks anyway!

Seriously, Bapco's (http://www.bapco.com/) Sysmark products have been used for years for benchmarking by PC Magazine but these cost US$400 a pop.
But for individual gamer's have a look at 3DMark06 (http://www.futuremark.com/products/3dmark06/), also used by PC Magazine and at a cost of US$20.
Thanks AL, I will have a closer look!

If you want to stress test your cpu, mobo and ram overclock you should run prime95, anything thats stable for 6 hours under this stress test wont fail in gaming.
For graphics card overclock stability testing atitool worrks fine for both nvidia and ati cards.
3dmark, while great for epeen, isnt that good for stability testing. Some overclocks which run through the brief 3dmark tests will fail after a longer period of time under high stress.

Use the burn in program in Sisoft Sandra if you want an all around test. If something starts to overheat, you can set it to do an auto shutdown before it damages something:
http://www.sisoftware.co.uk/
If you are looking to stress specifically your RAM, get memtest86:
http://www.memtest86.com/
If it is CPU you want to stress specifically, use Prime95:

Hopefully these tidbits can help.
