Are you using JSGME? If so then they go in the MODS folder under your SHIII default folder with the exception of sh3ultimateunlocker which is a separate executable file that you run outside SHIII and therefore doesn't matter where you put it.

If you are not using JSGME, aprat from making your life difficult when changing mods, you should find the details in the readme.txt files that should accompany the mod.

No, I dont have JSGME and haven't been able to locate it, is there a link that works to it?
Also, these mods unfortunately didn't come with any instructions.

Are you talking about 'stock' (unmodified) SHIII or GWX. If it's GWX you should be able to see this in your main game folder:

I don't kniow if it's in the 'stock' version as well, I have never played that. I installed the original GW version right from the start.
Any instructions for installing the mods tend to be in a 'read me' file in the mods own folder. Place any mods in the 'Mods' folder in the main game folder. When you activate the JSGME it will read the mods in that folder and show them on the left side, available for activation.

I need a modding utility for the 'stock' (unmodified) SHIII, I am just playing stock right now.

JSGME is a must when installing mods, you can find it here: http://www.users.on.net/~jscones/software/products.html (http://www.users.on.net/%7Ejscones/software/products.html)

For how to use it, check out the link on my sig for a great guide.

If your mods do not come with instructions, check their file configuration. For example:
Sobers 3d Waves ( Mod Name )\data\misc\peak.tga.

The above is the correct way a mod should look for JSGME. If the configuration is not correct, the mod will not work. All of this can be a little confusing at first but you will get the hand of it.

I think I have seen some mods being made available for the stock version, only I can't find the thread.

You can still use JSGME for this, again it makes life much easier.

Hmm, followed the instructions and placed the mods in the mod folder, but it doesn't seem to recognize these mods???

Are the mods you put in JSGME the correct file configuration? Also, what message are you getting regarding " not recognizing ".

I think the JSGME ready mod files need this kind of structure:
