Question:
Is it just me or does anyone else here think that the AI "cheats" with certain information within the game?
Senario One: Last career, I faithfully plotted all my courses on the map via waypoints, and while I didn't do too bad with regard to tonage sunk, it did seem that the IJN knew more of where I was when I was trying to evade contact. Granted I was playing vanilla and 1.2 patch with minor mods, but always when found the DDs and subchasers seemed to home in on me and DC me to oblivion frequently.
Senario Two: New career, and I've decided to play with "manual navigation", not laying down waypoints and using the compass for headings and letting my boat do it's thing and correcting the course as I felt there was a need. This time around I'm running vanilla 1.3 patched and TM 1.6+, and though the IJN has ships in the area of my boat, they seem "confused" at to exactly where I'm at and DCing the area and not my boat directly.
So I'm curious. Does the AI use the knowledge of the projected path via waypoints to figure out where my boat is or doesn't it?
Case in point for senario two: I was just tasked with photo shooting Yokohoma harbor up Tokoyo bay, into the lion's den, using manual navigation and no waypoint pathing, I was circled constantly but never hit or I was shadowed by 3000 yards with the boats doing the circle hunt off my port or starboard sides. I was never directly targeted. Pinged a couple times, but never located pin point.
