hey guys, just waiting for the money to buy my new graphics card (bfg 8800gts 320 oc2).
i opened to case to have a look at the power supply (also being replaced) and i noticed that my motherboard seems to be backwards from most others i have seen on the net.

it is screwed to the left had side of the case so any cards sit the right way up in the slots. because whenever i have seen 8800's on the net the mb is on the right hand side of the case and the card has its fan facing downwards.

can anyone shed any light on this matter?
i have a dell dimension 9150 and im gunna add a load more fans into it to help with cooling.

sorry for the ot but was wondering about the effect and thinking behind it.

Your system sounds like BTX instead of ATX. BTX makes everything seem upside-down. The only possible issue is your video card fan may get dustier faster than usual because it sits on top instead of underneath the card. You may not need to add as many fans as you think...the 8800GTS's arent THAT hot (compared to a GTX or Ultra), and they have pretty powerful fans on them and vent out the back of the case. In fact in some circumstances too many fans will adversely affect your airflow in the case causing vacuum pockets that trap heat.

BTX is supposed to be better cooling, more efficient airflow. Sometimes they even move the power supply to the bottom of the case instead of top, but not too often. Since heat rises it doesnt get trapped under cards.

Measure your case where the video card will go...those 8800's are LONG cards, sometimes longer than your motherboad itself.

You can always do like I had to do with my emachine.. stripped out all the goodies and put them in a 50 dollar case I bought off newegg. :rock:

cool thanks for the replys, i had a feeling it might have been a btx case. im definately gunna put in another intake fan and install an outtake fan and see how that goes. should be cool (lol sorry for the pun :arrgh!: )
