...by that I mean, I'm making a conscious effort for all future play to remain at 100% manual, and:

not shooting one shot kills. (All shots for all ships with a spread of three minimum.)
not shooting during driving rain or fog,
not shooting during daylight hours,
not shooting at any ship with AoB not between 60° & 120°,
not shooting at more than one ship in a convoy.

Reason:

Trying to keep tonage sunk at realistic levels. No more +30k ton patrols or more than two ships targeted.

cheers,

That, coupled with manual navigation, should make your life pretty interesting.:sunny:

:D ...I guess its a sign that we've (me) been at it too long...time for some self induced challenges. The game is one thing, but the modders have really made SH3/4 as much fun as can be without getting wet.

I suppose the next thing would be to start assigning JANAC tonnages.

I'm sure it will make the game more challenging and fun

I'm not sure what game setup your using, but I reckon there is definitely more fun due in the next GWX release

How many torps did the RL kaleun shoot? I reckon normally 2 not?

I would add something about using the hydrophones in a realistic manner, and not going to hight traffic areas after 24 hours in Patrol Area.

Shooting in daylight hours and bad weather is not unrealistic.

I completely agree. I always stay in my assigned grid. That's where they put me, that's where they want me.

I don't quite completely agree. For me it depends on just how bad 'bad' is. Of course trying to line up manual shots in towering waves (and with the stability disabled) might make all the difference.

Same here, Steve.

...oh...and yes...GWX for SH3 and TM for SH4.

Waiting like a kid for christmas on the new GWX:o

Which 100%? Map updates or no updates?

Here's another option for realism: get some sleep, occasionally.

Also when it come to how many torpedoes to fire my thoughts are that early in the war one or two torpedoes as required would be right, however later its seems some commanders would stand off from the convoy and fire a full spread and hope the best? Only on rare occations did they fire at destroyers and as the war went on the destroyers would keep the uboat down or destroy it. So avoiding shooting at destroyers may be another challenge?

But good on ya for exploring the challenges. I often have to consider what would be the reality rather than what I could do in the game. So far I cut a third off my tonnage sheet by playing the game from a historic perspective. Ive still got some way to go yet though. :yep:

no updates and/or no sonar/sound lines.

just the law of sines to solve the triangle--done twice to determine the difference to solve distance travelled in 3:15 = speed.

yes...sleep :dead: long patrols. Some folks read, some play cribbage, chess, solitaire, some knit. I've already made 3 sweaters, 3 pair of socks, 3 pr of gloves, and 3 watch caps...my christmas list is about complete.
