I just installed SH2 v 1.1 and it doesn't seem to work with vista. I get as far as single player missions and when I click "play" the screen goes blank...
The task manager says that "SH2 screen blanker" is running. Well, that's correct. How would you get it "unblanked" so the mission will start?
I changed compatibility to win 95/98. I tried adding msvbvm50.dll file but that did not work either.
Any ideas of what else to try to correct a blank screen?
Thanks.

I can't help much with Vista since I use XP, but that screen blanker goes away with ALT+F4 in Windows 98 and XP, and can be shut down independently fo the game (It only avoids that you see teh desktop while switching from one menu to another). Hope that helps

The screen blanker is part of SH2..and it can come on..and stay on without this desktop icon fix in the target box:
Right click on the sh2 desktop icon and then click on properties, in TARGET change the info to this:
"C:\Program Files\SSI\Silent Hunter II\Shell\Shell.exe"
See if that works.

I got my hopes up but that fix did not work either. Does anyone else use this with Vista?
Not sure if you checked out this link here.

:)
as you have found out with the previous idea..the game has more than one exe file..several in fact for different purposes...try (if you haven't allready) making sure each individual exe is set for compatibility...if you've tried it then apologies..
also try a completely fresh install if you haven't got it that way right now..
i've lost count of how many times i've gone looking for the answer to problems only to find that i had installed (or had been experimenting with modding some files) and just plain forgoten to set everything back to stock..and of course it's the dang modded files that are incompatible with "thing X" not the game..
i know the game won't run properly on XP without the official patch..haven't got Vista so can't do anything but guess...
