View Full Version : Friendly radar contacts are driving me insane.

Hey all,

Being stationed in Pearl Harbour and always stopping by in Midway to refuel before continuing my journey west into enemy oceans exposes me to what feels like a gruesome 5-10 minutes of bashing "+" to increase the time compression due to all the seemingly endless friendly radar contacts on the way and by each base.

Every time one is found or possibly moves the time compression is whacked right back down to 1-8x regular speed.

I have tried turning off the radar on board at the radar station, but still i get all kinds of radar contact, ranging from ships to friendly airplanes that just don't seem to want to leave me alone, buzzing around me for the whole leg from Pearl Harbour to Midway, much to my dislike.

I have reached the stage where I am considering just getting rid of all radars on my submarine so this frustrating key-mashing can end, even though it breaks the historical inaccuracy of the whole thing.

Seeing as you guys must have quite a few hundred hours of combined subbing between you, I imagine you have encountered this "design fault" or what ever you wish to call it as well. Surely there must be some way to tone this down or stop time compression being cancelled while within a certain range of friendly bases or some other solution to this problem.

It wouldn't be to bad if it was a one off thing, but it's every single patrol, on the way out and back. It really kills the enjoyment fo the game, makes it feel like one of those mmorpg grinds getting through that area lol.

Well enough steaming, don't want to blow the diesel engines :D

So does anyone have a solution to this please?

Thank you for the welcome and ahoy right back to you!

What you pointed out was correct Donut, thank you. What was the boggle was that though I had already installed the Trigger Maru mod, I had installed Real Fleet Boat mod on top of it. That seems to have disabled the starting outside of base functionality that is modded into Trigger Maru.

I uninstalled the Real Fleet Boat mod and now I start outside Midway with 99% fuel, fantastic now i can go straight for the hunt.

This leads me to wonder, do you now if Trigger Maru has the Real Fleet Boat mod included in it?
I do want the most realistic experience, historically and gameplay wise as possible. That is why I wonder, as according to Ducimus the Real Fleet Boat one is for maximum historical accuracy, yet if I install Trigger Maru over that there are a lot of files being overwritten. So I wonder, am i then losing out on the historical accuracy using Trigger Maru? Should I only use one of the two?

If I should install both of them, will the historical accuracy of Real Fleet Boat be maintaned even if I install Trigger Maru over it?
If I should only use one of them, then how do they differ? What do they offer that is different and what would I be missing out on using one of the two?

Sorry for all the questions, I am new to all of this. I do appreciate your time and help.

For all means and purposes, RFB and TM are mutually exclusive. TM is still quite realistic and adds a LOT of cool features that RFB doesn't have, all oriented realism-wise. The only difference is the rather effective deck gun -- but that is compensated by the altered damage model in TM.

Overall I strongly advise even hardcore skippers to opt for TM as a realism mod. With all the psot 1.3 additions, it's pretty much enough to satisfy even river coutners ;)

Thanks Switch, that clears it up for me.

I've opted for the Trigger Maru mod. Removed the Real Fleat Mod entirely so as not to cause any conflicts .

Loving every minute of it, been sailing for hours now since I don't have to beat my head against the friendly contact annoyances anymore, now that I start out of base. Thanks for your help guys, great community here I can see already :D.

Had a great patrol earlier...

report...

Came upon a massive convoy earlier, several battleships, and a pletorah of destroyers and a few merchant vessels, no doubt carrying supplies.

Managed to sneak up on it from a 90 degree angle out of the black waters of the night. Fired off four torpedos against a battleship with manual targetting. They all hit causing massive damage to it. Soon enough the battleship was listing starboard with the front decks almost awash. I turned the sub around and fired one more torp, it streaked across the dark waters but missed the stern by but a few feet. I kicked myself for not firing more, guess it's the burden of being a new captain trying to safe torpedos, never again. By the time I realized my mistake the battleship had moved behind a shield of ships, so I was unable to reach it.

Meanwhile the rogue torpedo continued onwards on its journey into the heart of the convoy. I saw it approach another battleship but didn't think much of it seeing as it was only one torpedo it wouldn't make much differnence even if it hit, it would just be a missed shot that would have been better put into the hull of the other battleship.

Then suddenly it hits, sending roaring eruptive sounds across the waves as it slams into the middle of the battleship, igniting it's ammo depot! The battleship was consumed in flames within seconds and exploded from inside, sending massive pieces of metal and guns flying through the sky. Only to be swallowed by the sea as gravity decided to play its part. The battleship broke up and went off to Davy Jones locker with all aboard sadly. But it was a great victory, if a lucky one.

We tried following the convoy to finish the job on the first battleship, but simply couldn't keep up submerged, nor could we surface due to the escort ships that were at this point frantically searching for me and my men.

After a few hours sailing east from where we crossed paths with the southbound convoy, we once again surfaced and breathed the cool fresh ocean air.
With night as cover we managed to slink away and with a great victory at hand we were greeted as heroes when we finally made it back to Pearl Harbour. :D
