recently made the move from SH3 to SH4, and was running SH4 with TM 1.5 quite smoothly over the past month. added the Silent Service graphic mod a few days ago, and then the pull-down pacific map mod.

noticed yesterday that there was the new 1.6 update and patch for TM, so downloaded that.

want to do a clean install, so i need to uninstall SH4. no "uninstall" option in the Ubisoft folder, so I delete the entire Ubisoft and SH4 standard folder under "c:\program files\", and delete the registry keys using REGEDIT.

reinstall SH4, reboot. update to v1.3 with the patch.

here's where the fun begins...

so, i haven't added the mods to the new install yet, in fact, i had deleted all traces of the mods, even the original folders i downloaded them in. i run SH4, and immeadiately up comes the silent service mod screen, and even my old save games are still there. how is this possible? these files shouldn't still exists anywhere on my pc.

so, thinking i must have made some mistake, i repeat the whole process. i delete every trace of anything remotely having to do with SH4 or the mods.

reinstall, reboot, repatch. same thing. so, curious, i redownload jsgme, run it, and it says there are no mods running. stangely, running jsgme didn't create the "mods" folder like it does the first time you run it. so, there is absolutely no mod folder or any traces of mods in the \program files\ubisoft\silent hunter IV\directory. i then added a "mods" folder manually, downloaded the TM gfx, 1.6, and patch mods in there, ran jsgme, and instead of showing me them under "available mods", it says they are already loaded. says nothing of the silent service and pull down map mod.

yet when i run SH4, there's the silent service stuff, even the pull down map mod stuff is there, in addition to TM. what the hell?

all i want is to do a clean install. i am sure the problem must lie in the way vista is organizing things, but this one has me truely perplexed.

any ideas? thanks in advance!

You could of use the add/remove programs to remove SH4 without deleting it from the C/ProgramFiles place. Also, some stuff from SH4 will be hidden, you think you deleted everything but there's some files and folders still around from the SH4 folder.

Try looking under "my documents" thats were your save game files are at.

In your users directory, turn on the view option to show hidden files. Look in the AppData/Local folder and delete all references to SHIV.

You should have used the Programs and Features control panel to remove the program - would have saved you having to hack the registry.

Re-install SHIV but NOT IN PROGRAM FILES - put it anywhere else (mine is in my users area in a "games" directory) - this will avoid UAC putting the mods and patches back in AppData and keep things clean.

P.S. actually, you will find the folder you want to delete in your (normally hidden directory): Users\<your users space>\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\
