In RL some skippers would have a look out on the scope while surfaced. This would have a bigger radius of view.

Do you think the game takes this into account?

Not at stock :damn: because the standard visibility limit of about 10000 yards gives no benefit for discovering the targets in raising the scope :shifty: since they are anyway already visible by naked eye and binoculars (A higher scope however makes details and a bigger part of the hull visible). I have moved the horizon in my game to some 20000 yards but unfortunately the earth curvature is unchanged and the ships are hull down in the same proportion until they are at 10000 yards cfrom you. Up from then they increase hull size when approaching until you can see them full hull at about 7000 yards (Which is more or less correct for the asumed heigth of observer in the bridge of a fleet sub). So it seems that unfortunately the hull-down effect is lost when putting the horizon more distant than in original form :damn: plus for some weird reason the game also doesn't render smoke beyond those 10000 yards :stare:

Thanks for the response Hitman.
And the info on the game mechanics.

weird reason = lazy programming, as usual. SH1 had curvature of the earth, but then again SH1 was the most realistic SH of them all.

SH1 also had High-scope modelled. You could be viewing empty horizon, raise scope while viewing through binoculars or TBT and ships would appear on the reverse slope of curve. Neat.
