View Full Version : SH3Commander = evil!

Hi all, I just wanted to relay my situation and ask advice.

I load SH3, GWX with SH3 Commander. I have crew transfers enabled and it transferred mybest mechanic off to another boat. It also gave me my next patrol grid, BF21 (I think) 150km West of Cornwall, well within range of the RAF. (Grumbles, muttering about suicidal missions... I'll do it, but damn you BdU!)

Finally, upon starting the mission, just out of Wilhelmshaven, I check everything for malfunction/sabotage to find that my attack periscope is all blurry. Some doughnut technician in the sub pen must have oiled the optics or something!!! Boy, does SH3Commander hate me today!

On the issue of malfunctioning/blurry attack periscopes, does anyone know if I can fix it somehow at sea, or do I just have to make do with the search periscope? Any advice gratefully received...

Captain 'Jinx' Siber.

You can always reload the game with the Commander and see if the problem was fixable. But that might cause something else to break:hmm:
Depending on what is broken I leave it as is, at least I know what is working and not working.

You can disable both options you know, personally I like to manage my crew myself so I kick them off the boat, err...transfer them when it seems appropriate to do so. the malfunctions are personal taste, I don't like em, takes me long enough to load a game for me to have to abandon the patrol and reload all over again...

they're options, that means they're optional, don't like em? turn em off :know:

Don't get me wrong, I chose to put all these options on, but I had no idea that Commander affected the periscope views. I was just grumbling that all these misfortunes happened simultaneously. I think these options add varety.

Strangely, this will work out as my best patrol to date (assuming I make it back to base...) as I've fired 7 torps for 35,000 tonnes so far. Having said that, the tanker I sank was a complete fluke, as one of the 2x shots I made at a large cargo missed and sank a medium tanker! :rotfl:

I'll try the attack periscope after the next reload. Perhaps it'll be fixed by then.

I use manual TDC and make do with my Obs. Scope when my attack scope is down.

It just means a lot more fiddleing about with the TDC controls.

Be aware, the "Inshore Campaign" is represented in GWX. You will be assigned shallow water patrol grids near England when the time is right.

These are not suicidal patrols by design. The intent was to place U-boats beyond the dispersal point where the escorts complete their missions and leave the convoys. This left the convoys vulnerable in locations where it was assumed U-boats would not dare go... in shallow water. In so doing, the U-boats did enjoy some success.

Once it became obvious that the Allies caught on to this new tactic, BdU abandoned the tactic.

And there was I assuming that sector assignment was random and limited only by a boat's range...

One word for GWX... WOW!

(and no, I don't mean World of Warcraft. I said 'word', not acronym! :rotfl:)
