Sorry but USA suck in Rugby, they might beat the Japanese, maybe even the irish but yeah they should stick to what they're good at, American football.

At Rugby? Are you high man?
Ireland has a strong team. And they aren't even in the same RWC group.
As to the topic question, No chance in hell. But the use of the phrase "England are too good" was dicey, I'd just say the Americans are too shyte.

I would also think that's is not a matter of the English being too good, but the USA being not good enough.

As long as they remember you cant call audibles at a rugby scrimmage ;)
And that you can in a line out!:D
If the Brits lose then they better be very ashamed! Just the English. The Welsh and Scots would be extatic!
One word: Yorktown.
The defeat of Great Britain by the French navy...right? :|\\
Back on topic though... I must admit I didn't even know the US had a Rugby team. How much funding does it get, is the sport covered in the National Press? Whats the coverage of the World Cup like in the US?
As someone who was made by one of his American Students to sit through the last US Superbowl at 3am, I'm intregued by the idea that the US plays a varient of American Football which does not involve stopping and starting every 20 seconds.

Well, let’s just say that I didn't know we had a Rugby team, never once seen any highlights on ANY sports channel, and know absolutely nothing about the World Cup. I would say the coverage is fairly minimal. I actually wouldn't mind watching us beat the Brits... :D

Really, US media show nothing? I mean it's only the 3rd largest sporting event on earth (behind the FIFA WC, and the summer olympics).

I wouldn't be too sure about that.
Its definatly the group of death, but I wouldn't be surprised if it were France to go. And depending on how they face you guys, and other results, Argentina could still be eliminated.

Rugby-World-England struggle to beat United States
REUTERS - Sunday September 9, 4:07 AM
LENS, Sept 8 (Reuters) - Champions England produced a sluggish, uninspired and deeply flawed performance on Sunday to beat the United States 28-10 in their opening World Cup Pool A match.
England failed to even gain the bonus point awarded for four tries, falling one short after leading 21-3 at halftime. They will need to find a huge improvement in all areas before their key group match against South Africa on Friday.
The winners of that Paris clash could find themselves facing Wales and Argentina in the knockout stages while the losers will probably have to get past Australia and New Zealand to reach the final.
On Saturday's evidence England can start preparing for the least enticing of those two options and even that assumes they will get past Samoa, a task by no means guaranteed on this display.
There was one bright spot in the lively display of Olly Barkley, who scored a try and kicked well as stand-in for injured flyhalf Jonny Wilkinson, but it will be precious little consolation for coach Brian Ashton.
MARKED CONTRAST
England struggled to settle into any sort of rhythm and after 20 shapeless minutes the teams were level at 3-3.
It could have been worse for the champions as captain Phil Vickery got away with a trip on Paul Emerick after Mike Hercus grabbed an interception and set up a dangerous counter-attack.
The infringement was missed by referee Jonathan Kaplan but U.S. coach Peter Thorburn was furious and Vickery could yet face a citing for the incident.
Only when the Americans were down to 14, with Vahafolau Esikia in the sin bin, did England manage their first try in the 35th minute. Josh Lewsey, who led the teams out on his 50th appearance, broke well and Mike Catt subsequently hoisted a kick into the arms of the unmarked Jason Robinson.
Barkley added the second just before the break and converted for a 21-3 lead that flattered England and was harsh on the Americans, who had competed with disciplined aggression.
Flanker Tom Rees charged powerfully through three defenders to score England's third try eight minutes after the re-start but it failed to ignite his side.
Struggling to come on to the ball with any pace and lacking real menace at the breakdown, England completely lost their way in the final quarter and rarely threatened a fourth try.
Instead it was the semi-professional Americans who struck eight minutes from time.
Lawrence Dallaglio was yellow carded and while England regrouped in confusion they were unable to prevent replacement Matekitonga Moeakiola charging over for a memorable try. Hercus converted and the game ended on a sour note with a yellow card for Emerick for a spear tackle on Barkley.

Diver, our news and regular TV give us almost no coverage of anything outside of the US, except for maybe 20 second clips showing Baghdad or something. Mostly it is about Britney Spears. I follow outside news closer than most Americans (I mean you gotta know what’s happening throughout the world) but I still hardly see anything. I am sure if I had satellite I would get some of the European channels.... no dice on regular cable though.
I admit I have seen FIFA on US TV... I usually put it on when I want to fall asleep quickly. :arrgh!:

As far as I know the 3rd largest is the Track & field WC's, maybe that changed lately tho.

The USA have some good players but I think they need a bit more time before the world starts seeing America as a threat in rugby.

Really, US media show nothing? I mean it's only the 3rd largest sporting event on earth (behind the FIFA WC, and the summer olympics).
Americans (as in the general populace) only care for american football and basketball, baseball and maybe ice hockey.
They love sports where you score a lot.
Australia 91 Japan 3
NZ 76 Italy 14
South Africa 59 Samoa 7
Scotland 56 Portugal 10
Given these scores they should love this game! So why don't they like Australian Rules football and cricket with both regularly have scores in the hundreds?:D

Ice Hockey scores are similar to football (soccer).
Baseball can often have low scoring games.
American football score lines and touchdown/try per game numbers are just about the same as rugby.

First they have to show the games on TV every now and then for us to like any of them!
Although this is SO off topic, you know what I enjoyed watching on ESPN 2 once . . . Sumo Wrestling . . . great sport . . . now they show non-sport sports . . . like the spelling bee.

Argh, the Brits whomped us good  and Tonga too?
Yeah US histroy in rugby is less than spectacular. I guess considering the fact that most of the team is comprised of guys not quite good enough for college football and the lack of understanding or interest in the game in the US the fact that they can actually score against some of the top line fully professional teams like England is pretty good.
It would be interesting to see some of the top line NFL guys playing this game with appropriate training and understanding of the rules. I reckon the US would be very competitive were the players and support available.
