I can't believe I've been reading sub books for 20 years or so and never got this one straight, but I'm re-reading Clancy's SSN for the first time in many years and I have to ask this.
When you're reading about a torpedo launch on a USN boat, they always say 'match bearings and shoot' - what do they actually mean by 'match bearings'? I've always guessed it was to match the fire control solution's bearing to the torpedo's gyro, but I've never been sure. Can someone clarify this for me?
Cheers
