Antony Beevor's book Downfall might be of assistance.
Hi
I have this book, read it- but didn't find the answer.

"Adolph, What time is the Bar B Q at the bunker? Did we miss it? Just got your invitation.......Anyway, hey if you're not doing anything come on over to Hiroshima for our big "BLOWOUT PARTY". Hope to hear from you soon..............
"You got us to buy into this Axis thing and now you're bailing on us? Well thanks a LOT Germany!"
and it was signed with a  and a :nope: as well as a
Hi Adolf, hope you are well, we are doing fine apart from being beaten back all the way to our own coastline. Sorry to hear about Berlin being flattened, that's a shame. Oh well, perhaps you could pop over here for a holiday with me? I am spending the summer in Nagasaki, it's always nice there in August and the sushi is great, although it's getting tricky to find, what with all the Yankee Imperialist submarines sinking our sampan fleet. Give my regards to Herman and tell him the silk dresses he wanted are in the post. Anyway, must dash, some annoying siren noise has just sounded...
Yours, Emperor Hirohito

December 1945? Yeah, the first peacetime Christmas party!

Yup, Dec 45 was a pretty joyous time for the US and its soldiers in particular. We'd just won the two biggest wars we had ever fought, beating opponents on the opposite sides of the world nearly simultaniously, and we were the sole posessors of the atom bomb, which everyone was saying would make war obsolete.
Yeah i'd say we were pretty happy back in Dec 45.
