Hang about at periscope depth until it is about 500m from you then fire a magnetic eel running at 1m. Gets em most times.

Other than that run away as soon as you see him.:D

The do the job they were designed to do... kill us.

My dad was a Leading Coder in the RCNVR during WWII, from 1941 to 1945. He didn't talk about it much (as is usual for combat veterans), but the only U-Boat kill he ever participated in, (HMCS Huntsville) was pretty much the work of an RN Black Swan that used the Squid forward-throwing dc system. The U-Boat was thoroughly killed.

He said that him and several mates were sent in a motor launch to pick up 'evidence' of the kill...

Do you mean the Hedgehog?

And yes, I too really hate the Black Swan class:damn: I tend to avoid them if I can, if not I go deep and keep quiet till it gives up the attack.

ive tried that.....its just that I utterly despise using ordnance on something as trivial as a destroyer or frigate when it would be so much more useful up the propshaft of, say, a large tanker :) I had a two hour dc attack before he gave up, now im trying to catch up with the remains of the convoy :arrgh!:

I couldn't agree more about wasting ordnance, however if its a matter of life and eath and you can make the shot why not get him off your back and be done with it? You get a free ride then to get back with the convoy and there is one less DD in the world for the cost of a torpedo.

Looks like you sorted it out anyway. Your only problem now is that you'll probably have to suffer another 2 hours under DC from the same Black Swan after you attack again.

Such is the life of a Kaleun...

Have a good one yourself :)

Black Swans are nothing much
When compared to the River class frigate

I'll be honest and say that I dont really see that much of the sod hunting me. I try not too use external camera except for seeing the explosions or looking for screenshots. If i see a warship the scope goes down immediately and it just gets classified in my head as destroyer and filed under s for stay away from :D

I have the utmost respect for anybody who can differentiate a river class from a black swan at an angle

thanks mate, i thought i was the only one to be like that... are there actually differences in the toughness of those depth-charging suckers?

Call me crazy but I really don't like messing with Convoy escorts. And as long as I don't get arrogant they can be put down. As to the target validity, if it's flying an ensign of a hostile nation it's a target. Valid or not I don't know, I'm not a therapist and haven't had talks about self-esteem with 'em.

Don't get me wrong. My normal modus operandi is to keep well away from anything with DC's. Only if I can;t get out from under em do I think about having a pot shot and only then if they are on their own.

The best way to kill a Black Swan is to ram into it's side, disabling it, with your U-boat stuck in it's flank. Then quickly board it with your crew, punch the captain in the face - John Wayne style, then poke him in the eyes a few times and make the rest of the officers bunk with Bernard for the rest of the voyage. Sonar operators, make them listen to heavy metal at full volume for a few hours = end of their careers.

Hmmm, you might see 6 black swans cruising round the biscay if your lucky.....

As soon as I see one I ram a homing torp up their gullet... Muwahahaha :arrgh!:

Do you mean the Hedgehog?

Nope, the Squid. It isn't modeled in the game. It was a DC thrower similar to a mortar.
It was a nasty little toy.

"Literally ordered directly from the drawing board, this weapon was rushed into service in 1943 onboard HMS Ambuscade. This weapon was a three-barrel 12 inch (30.5 cm) mortar with the mortars mounted in series, one behind the other. The barrels were mounted in a frame that could be rotated 90 degrees for loading. The projectiles weighed 390 lbs. (177 kg) with a 207 lbs. (94 kg) minol charge. Sinking speed was 43.5 fps (13.3 mps) and a clockwork time fuze was used to set the depth. Maximum depth was 900 feet (274 m) and all three projectiles had to be set the same. The weapons were automatically fired from the sonar range recorder at the proper moment. The pattern formed a triangle about 40 yards (37 m) on a side at a distance of 275 yards (250 m) ahead of the ship. The first successful use was by HMS Loch Killin on 31 July 1944, when she sank U-333."
