I just ordered a PC with this graphics card, then looked in Ubi.com's SH4 support and its not on the SUPPORTED cards list, but I don't see why it shouldn't work. Does anyone have this card or know someone who does and can play SH4 perfectly? I really dont want to cancel that order.....:dead:

You should not have to cancel that order and it will play SH4 fine. The reason it's not on the supported list is probably because it was released after the list was made, but even so, it will work.

The card I am running, an Nvidia 8800 GTX is also not supported but it runs SH4 great! :D

I'm currently running it, with few issues. Every now and then, the display goes jerky... not a bad frame rate, just wildly varying. Things will be smooth... then pop, jerk, smooth... pop, jerk... smooth. It only happens occasionally, not enough to seriously irritate me. Other 8xxx owners have reported this, so I was assuming it was a driver issue. I'm running Vista, too, if that helps explain my nonchalance.

The waves occassionally "shimmer" or have a "jello effect", but other simmers have reported it as well, so I don't think it's the video card itself.

Other than that, I can't complain, especially for the price I paid for it.

That's due to the game engine and isn't specific to a single video card.

On the 8600 issue, I'd've goten a 79xx card in your place. They outperform most 8600s under DX9 and the gap widens when overclocking comes into play. But an 8600 should serve you just fine for half a year.

I'm using it. No problems. Only in SH3 I have some artifacts. Not very disturbing. Good FPS.

Yes, I have this exact card. Sweet. No problems. Don't cancel your order unless you buy the 8800 GTX!! Hope I'm not too late..:smug:

Strange. Never had this problem. I'm thinking you've got a RAM issue (system), Heat problem, or your HDD is showing it's age...:-?

I get 45-60 FPS in port, 60-75+ at sea, in combat..smooth as my woman's..never mind. It's a good card. Vista & DX10. The jelly effect is from Living Breathing Ocean, I think, because I didn't have it before that mod, running on a 256 ATI 96xx whatever.... AMD rocks, ATI is a joke. Always have been. Speaking from experience, not trying to be a jerk.

I think I can confirm this "jelly" effect with Nvidia 8800 GTS but pretty much only when I use SuperSampling AA mode. For some reason, I get real choppy framerates in SH4 with other than MultiSampling AA modes

Nah... had a bad stick of Kingston RAM (I'm not overclocking, so normally Kingston suits me fine... cheap & works ;)), so I ended up running some hardware diagnostics (PC-Check), in addition to stress testing it overnight.

I'd sooner think the "jerky" fps is related to driver issues, knowing the comments I've heard regarding Vista & NVidia's 8x00 drivers. A possible issue with SH4 not liking my dual core processor crossed my mind, too... but the issue hasn't bothered me to the point where I want to go digging real deep for it.

The jelly effect is just plain wierd... it seems to be fairly random as to when it hits, but it hits me most often when I'm running the 'scope up. Then it disappears *helpless shrug*. Once again, it hasn't bothered me enough to go poking.

I should mention that I've ran into FPS issues when I've moved the external camera real close to a burning ship... the FPS just bogs right down. But I had the same problem back with SH3, too, so I'm just blaming it on the graphics engine.

To sum it up, I'm too lazy and cheap to deal with any issues :nope:
