View Full Version : For those with long game load times

I've read some posts suggesting that some people experience load times of 5 minutes or more with SH4. I'm well into my third career, and my load times have never been greater than 2 minutes and thirty seconds from the point when I click on 'Load Game' to the point where I'm in the control room hearing "All Stop". Also, I never get repeat missions. I may get a mission again that I ran 5 missions ago, but I never get the same mission twice in a row.

I think the reason for this, which the purists will hate, is that I never go in for refits. I complete my assigned mission and report that fact. I am then assigned a second mission. I complete that mission also, and then I head for home without reporting the success of my second mission. By not reporting it, I will not be assigned a third mission, which would certainly require a refit stop.

I now head home and get my credit for tonnage sunk and possibly a medal, and then I reload and head out on my next mission.

I offer this simply as info for those who are fed up with long load times.

What a SISSY!

On my 12th Patrol I completed 7 (that's right... SEVEN) objectives without re-fueling/rearming.

Two objectives... PHBBBBBBT!

Your advice is correct... just man-up there a little, Nancy!

Show off!

I believe I had 5 as the most missions in one patrol. But, yes, go to your home port for credit, etc. The memory clock starts at zero again and all the saved games in just one patrol with refit after refit will be gone thus making load times short and sweet.

I've only did 6 Objectives before but i stopped after that and only do one or two Objectives now.

There's no way you'd last that long at sea without a refit at the nearest beer and pizza joint. :D

I never get multiple objectives because I don't radio home, lol.

It's all in what you load up with before you set out...

Heheh. I take the SILENT part seriously. I realize that the game engine requires being dangerously chatty, but I find it hard to do, lol.

Not to be a pr1ck or anything, but what does not reporting mission status or refitting have to do with load times. I waa running SH4 on an old AMD machine with 512 mb ram and a 256 mb ATI 9600 card. had 2-4 minute load times. Now have a Dual core Intel machine, 2GB ram, NVIDIA 8800 GTX, SB X-FI extreme, and have load times of 15-30 seconds.
Load times are Hardware related. Period.:nope:

One sure fire way not to be considered a pr1ck is not to make statements about something unless you are absolutely positively sure you know what you are talking about.

:D

It has already been confirmed by the developers that the longer your patrol runs the longer your load times will be. Different hardware may mean that different people experience differing results, but the length of time it takes for a particular machine to load a particular patrol is directly dependant on the length of that patrol, and will increae as the length of patrol increases.
