Changing bases

My flotilla should be operating out of Lorient, I'm at sea, and it wants me to return to Wilhelshaven.

It's my first cruise in my new IXb. July, 40.

How is it supposed to happen? Do I just dock at Lorient and see what happens?

When the base changes you will be sent a message to inform you. After that you can simply travel or teleport there. Lorient becomes operational in September 1940 by the way ;)

That means the base can supply U-Boats. The Flotilla does not begin operations from there until September. You can still use the base as a "milk cow" though

You appear to be getting the "A new submarine base is available for operations in Lorient" radio message, which commences around mid-July, confused with the "Base changed to: Lorient" message, which occurs at midnight on 1 September 1940 (GWX or stock).

The former message is just letting you know that Lorient is available as a dockable base, it is NOT telling you that your base has changed. The latter message does this.

Until 1 September your base is Wilhelmshaven, although you can dock at Lorient, but it will be treated as docking at a "friendly" base.

It's highly likely that wherever you are it would be quicker (in days spent terms) to use Lorient as a 'milch cow' like mel suggests, rather than sacrifice the 28 days or whatever in using your current home base :arrgh!:

As I left for the patrol starting in Sept. of '40 I got the "your new base is Lorient" message.

Only burn is that in buying my IXb I got demoted....I know, I know... you spend renown and you go down.:x

I should bounce back to KL pretty quick though; finishing up a 64000 grt patrol, with one fun night attack with pretty fireballs from the convoy, and getting chased on the surface by a Black Swan and a pair of Flowers who fired a bunch of starshells and shot at me for quite a bit.
Scared my crew but missed the boat. :arrgh!:

yeah i remember getting a message that said that Lorient was operational and not thinking i went all the way for nothing lol.
