I'm getting some crackling sounds in SHIV that just started. there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the soundcard as all sounds in all other applications are crackle free.
any ideas?
thanks

Umm well lets see i don't know of anyone having this kind of problem. You say its not your sound card you might check your speakers thats about all i can suggest anything else.

I sometimes get this when I am using the 40mm cannons on surface craft. (I have the sound settings to real delay). When i hit the surface ship I sometimes get a crackle noise rather than an explosion (if the ship is a long way away). I am using a Soundblaster X-Fi Extreme gamer card. The good thing about it is I am certain that I have hit the ship!

In DXDiag, you need to set the hardware acceleration slider back 1 notch, then exit DXDiag and test SH4 again. If you still have the issue, repeat the above procedure and set the slider to its basic acceleration level setting.

I ran into this issue when I installed patch 1.2. The cannon fire was just a crackle and the AA gun was much the same. I did a clean install and the crackle went away. The AA gun sound had returned. Attempt what TDK recommended and also within the game there is a 3D sound slider that you can adjust as well.

that's a big "will do"!
also, i installed newer sound card drivers and voila, it's okay...so far...
thanks!

"they're baaaaaaaaaack"!
took another complete flush and re-install to rid my rig of the crackles. i already had the sound properties set ok, but i had previously cranked the in-game 3-d sound all the way to max...maybe the culprit?
anyway, thanks for all the help
