Some Questions

Does anyone know for sure if;

1) Does boat speed have anything to do with the actual recharging of the batteries?

2) Same as above for replentishment of the Co2?

3) Would hugging the bottom (shallow...20-40m depth) engines off/silent running help to "NOT" be detected?

4) Just wondering, as night comes on I get splashes of colors water & skyline. looks like a water painting.
I have an ati X1900XT & all my other games colors are just fine. I doesn't bug me, but thought I would try & adjust it out, but won't bother if others have it also.

5) Just what benifit would I get from trying to download & install the GWX mod?

6) What are the (not so nice) things about the mod? I have read that the water takes a turn for the worst with gwx. I like the clear water to see what is going on under the water. That is part of the gaming fun for me...Just to be able to see..

3) Hm not really, if you get detected at 20 to 40m, you are pretty dead no matter what you do!

4) Nvidia card here - sorry. but make sure your drivers are upto date at http://ati.amd.com/

5) You will have about twice as much game content as you do now. Play with with GWX for a week and you will wonder how you ever played SH3 without it. :rock: (Im not going in to any detail as this forum is already rich with info on GWX!) ;)

6) The only bad thing about it -is the long load times - (but its worth the wait), you need another tool called SH3 comander which you can use with GWX, You will love it, this tool will allow you to set the water in GWX to be as clear as you like - but it also does a great deal more than that!. :)

1) speed will not affect battery charging, actually the batteries recharge when you're on the surface , even out of fuel. :rotfl:

If you go to the (F2) Control room after surfacing while charging batteries, you can see that one engine is propelling the u-boat - and responding to your speed commands - while the other runs at constant speed to recharge the battery. Confused how it recharges without any fuel though...

Its kinda hard to stay out of shallow water when your operating the type IID boat in the North Sea along the west coast of the England/Scotland.

When I pick up sound of what I preceive to be a Warship, I just get out of their way. I don't attack fishing boats, Trawlers or armed escorts because while I would be trying to sink them with this puny, POS pop pop gun they would be calling in air cover to sink my little boat. I haven't been depth charged yet, but I know that my day is coming. the odds get worse with every patrol & I'm in the middle of Patrol #9 now. There is deep water over next to Norway, but not much traffic that I have seen. I haven't been sent to the Norway coast as yet. I do go home that way & have made two or three sinkings, however it showed on the score card that they were neutral...even though their flags were British!

Ask far as that GWX...man I am so shy of doing mods. Every da*ned time I install a mod I screw up the install & end up having to uninstall & reinstall everything from the beginning.
Maybe after I get killed & have to start over again anyway I'll look iinto it. I just hate downloading & installing stuff. I always screw it up...guaranteed!

Well, GWX is very easy to install!
Like any other progam you just double click on seteup.exe and click next, next, next, finnish. -Thats about it :p

To install:
1. Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs"
2. Open Windows Explorer and:
- *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3
- *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder
3. Reinstall SH3
4. If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US)
5. OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future
6.Download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch
7. Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts
8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts
9. SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.

Do not try to install GWX until you have all 5 .bin files and the GWX.exe file, all in the same folder.

As far as the Commander. do I really need it? I mean, with GWX I'll be totally in the dark until I learn it just by itself. I really have no idea what I would need commander for. I don't do a lot of extra stuff in these games. Heck, I have enough problem keeping my head above water with just the standard game. To much stuff just confuses me more..lol

With this GWX will I still be able to totally forget my crew..I have them all at (0) in the config files. I don't want to screw with them. or do lthat fancy trig math manually either.

Will I still be able to keep my type IID boat & crew out of wilhelmshaven or do I have to start at zero all over again. Man, I got a whole box full of medals, one given to me by der furhers dog for screwing up but making it back home anyway.....lol..

Commander lets you specify how you want to play. You can change a whole raft of config and gameplay items that lets you simply contol your experience in game. I find it hard to play without it.

You do not have to use SH3Commander.

However, using Commander you could set it to 'no fatigue' and forget your crew.

You would need to start a new career.

You have the correct two files for Commander.

The Commander is a standalone prog and you can install it before or after SH3/GWX. You have the correct files for it. As I understand it your SH3 install is clean and unmodded, so I would delete any careers you have running and then make a copy of the SilentHunterIII folder and save that copy somewhere else.
Then run the GWX.exe file, then when GWX is installed, run the GWX103.exe file to update GWX. After that run SH3Cmdr27.exe to install the Commander. Then unzip the GWX102CfgSH3Cmdr.zip file directly into the SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.
I recommend you to read the help and fac files for the Commander before you use it. Same goes for the GWX manual, it´s well worth the time:up:

As it was stated before it makes no difference when you install SH3Cmdr. For GWX you MUST add the GWX Cfg files (the ones you're posting) otherwise the game will crash. Personally I install SH3Cmdr last but as I said before it makes no difference because it's a stand alone program. Make sure you follow the instructions stated in the manual though.

Oh wow...The pressure is on already. I have to go to work now, but tomorrow is my day off so I guess I'll just "suck it in" & get on with it when I get home.

I'll uninstall SH3 hard drive. do a reg tune up to get rid of all the dead end pieces, defrag & then re-install SH3 & the 1.4b patch..Save that to my external hard drive then:
Install:
GWX.exe....bin # 1,2,3,4 & 5. Then install GWX103.exe. open run the game...Close & install SH#Cmdr27.exe ...close...reopen install the GWX102Cfg4SH3Cmdr.zip.

Then I'll spend the next two days trying to read the manuals & understand what I got myself into...lol..

The bummer is... I'm just in the middle of lmy 9th patrol & would liked to have carried over the 29.876 tons that I managed to sink in the first 8 patrols. Man! I worked my arse off for those. Probably not much for you old hands, but for this newbie Boat guy, it's a bunch...lol.. Oh well, guess it's the first ones that really stick with you the most..lol

If you see any problem with the way I have the install sequence set in my little mind...Please sound off!

Also, PapaG39, as one player with an ATI X1650 Pro found today, the latest drivers for your video card may not be the greatest. The Catalyst 7.8 drivers were causing him serious problems, but everything smoothed out when he installed the 7.5 drivers.

Interesting! I downloaded a zip file on 5-Aug by that exact name "GWX103Cfg4SH3Cmdr" when I was gathering files I'll be needing when my SH3 arrives. When I first posted in this thread, I wanted to make sure I wasn't misreading the filename, so I opened up my SH3 Downloads folder and that's the name of the file. I don't recall from which download link in this forum it was obtained nor is there any way of knowing if someone else altered the filename, but that's what it says. Obviously with your affiliation with the GWX team, you'd be in the best position to know what's what. Thanks for the heads-up, I'll be sure to download the one from your link.

Pen's files are exactly the same as the other available versions. They have just been renamed, which I prefer. How many times have we had to answer if the cfg files labelled 1.02+ were compatible with GWX 1.03?

As for taking too long to do a full reinstall, just how long does it take to press the SH3Cmdr Rollback Button?:hmm:

O.K. I just started the process by installing SH3 Cmdr.27, but before I open it I would like to make sure that it won't kill the patrol (#12) that I am in the middle of right now. I got transferred from Wilhelmshaven to Brest & this is my second patrol out of there. It's a really good one too. With my little type IID boat (5 only torpedos) I have sunk 4 Coastal Merchants & still have one torpedo left.
Tlhere is this Tribal DD that has gone right directly over the top of me twice now.. Big Ocean & he just happens to almost get me twice. He is just doing a pattern search looking for me I think. I keep changing directions & not staying to one specific heading toward Brest & home port, but he seems to know where I might me anyway.

anyway, Will this commander kill this patrol if I open it?
I have printed out the whole readme & will finish reading it at work...heck, I'm an oldfart" security guard...I reelly don't work..lol

After I finish this patrol I'll uninstall sh3 & reinstall it plus 1.4b & then the GWX.

Dang but this is really fun. I didn't expect it to be after a professional career in flying & then flying il2 for the past 5 years, but it is very interesting.
With the exception of New york/Germany & two years later back to New York via some da*n sloboat troop ship fulla puke & stink back in 1957 & 1960 the only boats I've had anything to do with was 35 years of canoing in Alaska...
