There continues to be ongoing development for Bob2 by the almost entirely all-volunteer dev team.

A coding breakthrough of sorts was reached a few months ago for BoB2 where it became clear that the capability to add additional planes to the suite of existing ones was close at hand. This was both for BoB2 itself as well as other games actively in development based on the BoB2 'Merlin' engine with different theaters and/or different time frames of the war.

The near-term plan is to add a Tiger Moth to BoB2. That would also include additional new IA missions with this new plane.

The Tiger Moth and eventually other plane additions will come via all new or third party skins or a combination thereof. The FMs of the new planes would be built based on the core FMs used in BoB2 but tweaked to match the proposed new plane's actual flight models.

Overall this is an exciting and very significant development as it opens the door to the many skinners and modders in the flight sim community at large to use or modify existing skins they have created in yet another game(s). Third party skins and plane-add ons has been a long standing objective of the BDG team.

Again, the initial plane that is desired to be added is the Tiger Moth 2-seat biplane trainer. More info on the proposed initial project is here: http://shockwaveproductions.com/foru...pic.php?t=8590 (http://shockwaveproductions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8590)

I mentioned the FMs above. For those not following BoB2, yet another round of FM enhancements is out and they are in the public beta stage. Of greatest significance to the new FMs is the implementation (finally) of full blown propeller torque effects which were absent before. The implementation of FFB effects for stall and buffet remains superb in BoB2. More info on the new flight models is here: http://shockwaveproductions.com/foru...pic.php?t=8561 (http://shockwaveproductions.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=8561)

One other major development in the works for BoB2 is enabling Multiplayer, but there is still no specific time table yet for its implementation. At least there is active effort on it and for the first time the devs have publicly announced the intention to get it working. At best probably not until 2008.

Anyone interested in skinning planes or modding is welcome to peruse the thread linked above or the Shockwaveproduction boards in general.
