When I try to load SHIII , the copy protection kicks in and says ;

The applications module sh3.exe was modified. It may be damaged or infected by a virus. Reinstall the application.

I rolled back SHIIICommander, deleted the game and all the files that arent deleted by the uninstaller, defragmented, ran virus and spam controles and reinstalled, but I still get the same error. Anyone know what might be the problem?

Using gwx 1.03

Thanks in advance

A couple of suggestions:

1. Is your .exe pointing to the correct drive for your install?

2. Have you installed a no-dvd program? They can hang around, forgotten, and can play havoc.

All I can suggest is a painstaking process of:

1. install vanilla - play it to check
2. install patch - play it to check
3. install GWX - play it to check
4. install mods (preferably via JSGME) but one at a time - running the game after each mod activation to check for negative effect.

Go to Control Panel...Add/Remove Programmes and uninstall.....then install game disc and have it perform an 'Uninstall'
Now follow the instructions below: I understand the initial instructions duplicate the first part of the process, but follow these steps anyway as an extra measure

1. Uninstall SH3 via Windows' "Add/Remove programs"
2. Open Windows Explorer and:
- *delete* the folder where you had installed SH3
- *delete* the \My Documents\SH3 folder
3. Reinstall SH3
4. If your SH3 did not come with patch v1.4b already included, install patch v1.4b. Ensure you install the patch that corresponds to your copy of SH3 (Download/DVD/EMEA/US)
5. OPTIONAL: Copy and paste this "clean" install as a backup to avoid the need to follow steps 1-3 if your game becomes corrupt in future
6.Download into the SAME folder GWX.exe and the five .bin files. While there grab the v1.03 patch
7. Run GWX.exe and follow the installation prompts
8. Run GWX103.exe and follow the installation prompts
9. SH3 COMMANDER USERS: Download the GWX 1.02+ Cfg files for SH3 Commander and unzip the contents DIRECTLY into your SH3 Commander\Cfg folder.

When i got that remark last week i scanned with Dr.Web cureit and
i found a W32/virut 5 worm. This worm damages the .exe files.

I hope this won`t be for you the case.

I'm haveing the same pproblem with SH3. EXE error.

I did search and found it in C\WINDOWS\Prefetch

I did all the steps in uninstalling and reinstalling : Remove all program files, and document files. Removed from Registry. Did Defrag before and after .

Three times I've done this with no luck.

The game played fine before.

Now all I get is a SH3.EXE error. Any Ideas ?

Manually copy the SH3.exe from the disk and paste it in your SH folder overwriting the old one...

Thats a bummer. Its been a quick fix for other games where from modding etc the exe gets corrupted. Jimbuna's approach is more indepth and probably the next thing to try.

Sorry I coudnt be more help :88)

You could try using the Starforce removal tool. Maybe the SF drivers are corrupted.

Hi All Again.

I'm haveing the exact same problem as soma states above.

Mine is a US DVD and have had since it's release.

Have played it for years and with GWX 1.03

Uninstalled it and now it won't reinstall.

Was getting it ready for GWX 2.0

This hasn't happened in at least 20 or more uninstalls and reinstalls.

The only other clue I have is it was patched with latest patch before uninstall.

Any ideas fellas ? This has NEVER happened before.

BTW SH4 is installed and heavily modded without any problems.

I've only experienced this once, but what worked for me was performing the 'uninstall' option from the game disk :hmm:

Tried that too jim and no luck. The part that scares me is I'm at the point that a reformat seems to be the final answer.

I hope someone comes up with a better answer than my idea. "REFORMAT" :damn:

Have you tried running a full system cleaner? Problems like this can usually be caused by residual files in Windows.

Also, fully uninstall, reboot, then run the starforce removal tool, then reboot & try again.

Also, Google will throw up some answers but don't limit your search to SH3 related issues. There should be an error code, put that into google to see what's returned.

My money's on starforce.:yep:

Will give it a shot dan and see what happens. As i've stated i'd hate to reformat.

If you have windows XP and you suspect you may have had a virus you need to turn off system restore ( it will make a copy of your files including the virus). Next run your system anti-virus program. Turn system restore on again. Then start a clean reinstall. Just one more sugestion .
