Hi all, just thought I'd share this as it was the most terrifying experience my crew has ever been through (except of course for the 600 times they've been sunk:rotfl: ) anyway....
Running GWX 1.3 and attacking a convoy in a Type IXB, I got caught relatively shallow and depth charged by the escorts. At 122 meters we get hit and suffer heavy flooding in the stern area

the boat starts down stern first at a ridiculous angle

I put the damage control team to work, go to flank speed to try to give them some time, and move all non essential crewmembers forward (I have no proof this works other than it seems to have in the past), and blow ballast repeatedly. I know there are escorts above but I'm trying at least to save the crew.
Suddenly we start to shoot up but still at the terrible angle 100 meters...50.....20.... and than the boat broaches the surface right in the middle of the escorts who seem thoroughly disoriented by the sight of a u-boat bow in their midst

I order back emergency and we start back down again at the same angle... the escorts know exactly where we're at but at such a crazy angle and going straight down that they just can't figure out whats going on. We slide back down to 243 meters

and begin finally to level out

we regained control at about 230, stopped the flooding, and were able to go silent. The escorts dropped some more depth charges but we were way to deep for them and we were able to escape. I figured that I must be suffering some serious hull damage and returned to Lorient only to find out that hull integrity was only down to 98%.
All in all, quite a experience!:yep:
