I have to say that this the worst torpedo so far in this game. I hit a large merchant 3 times and it still would not go down. What to do.

Mark 23s were NOT meant for use against merchant ships, they contain MUCH less firepower and are meant for targeting escorts as they are HOMEING torpedoes which home in on the propellers of the ship to disable the Destroyer escorts.

Dont use them against merchants. :up::arrgh!:

Thanks for the tip. I was going to refit again but I know they will give me too many of these. End the patrol plus I think my guys are getting tired.

The MK23's are the single speed setting version of the MK14 - i.e they just have a single speed of 46Kts. In all other respects they are identical to the Mk14. They should be used against merchants - or anything for that matter.

The homing torpedoes you refer to are the MK27's - these are the escort killers.

Homing torpedoes should only be used at escort's if a destroyer is going flat out in a straight line some 30 to 40000 give him one, best use them when your in a middle of a convoy. Some times it's a game of chicken will you move off first or will the MK27 get him.
