How can we stop the dealers of drugs if we can't even control the source of the drugs?

I thought we had a whole army over there to take care of this sort of thing.

The article says that 80% of the opium they grow is along the border with Pakistan, uhmm?

"No other country has produced narcotics on such a deadly scale since China in the 19th century," a UNODC statement said

"Some 80 percent of opium poppies were grown in a handful of provinces along the border with Pakistan, where instability is greatest," the UNODC said

This is the only way an Afghan gov't can stay in power. Afghanistan has no other natural resource which can be tapped as quickly and easily. I don't condone it but pragmatically it works. The Taliban forbade the opium crop and look what happened to them.
