Info on the HDMI 1.3 specification for those in the Audio/Video market

I disagree with how this article says that decoding in the player is a good thing, but it still doesn't change the point of the article itself - HDMI 1.3 is pretty much a wasted spec for HD DVD and Blu-Ray.

I agree with the governement though in that it needs to force or at least coerce?...the cable companys and the manufacturers of equipment...cable boxes,dvds,vcr's etc etc to get on the same page at the very least.

HDMI is not even a supported format by Scientific-Atlanta which is who my company buys they're cable boxes from...so when customers purchase $100 hdmi cables and come home, plug them in they take a 50/50 chance of it not working all togther or having some sort of issue...

If and I say "IF" the manufacturers can all agree on the technology to use and stick to strict guidelines in regards to "Quality" then I won't see any problem using any manufacturers equipment but as it stands now ...it seems to be a cluster @#$!@#....bout all I have to say. :)

If you want my opinion, I quite frankly would rather stick with component HD cables so that I can maintain control. HDMI in my book is a way to take that control away from me. HDMI also comes complete with restrictions on what can and cannot be displayed - it is way for the movie industry to invade my house and control the equipment that I purchased and the movies that I purchased.

An example - I bought a capture card a few years back with the idea that I'd move my VCR collection and preserve it on DVD. Nodda! No chance of that happening. Enter the world of Macrovision. I was defeated about 50% of the time with filters / cracks, you name it trying to get movies on DVD. Anyway, I did mange to win on occasion, but with HDMI, it is a new world to defeat for me.

Now I'm rambling, so I'll stop.
