I've got the following problem and I hope you guys no how to solve it.
I was ordered to go to the port of Dalian and to take pictures of the carriers that were there. So I went to the port, got as close as possible to the 2 carriers (anti-sub nets didn't allow me to get closer) and took pictures. However the mission objective is still incomplete. I took the photos with both periscopes and even photographed every destroyer but it's incomplete.
Did I forget something or is this just a glitch or bug?

I've never had that particular mission, but the photo recon missions I have had I've had to lock onto the target then photograph it. And had to do this to everything in the harbor that the periscope will lock on.Then when the photo button will not light again I have completed the mission.

If the photo button keeps lighting up, try locking on and taking a picture of one of the ships you already had taken a picture of. Sometimes that gets it to complete.

That's just the problem: I've locked on every ship that was there and shot dozens of pics, but I just could not complete the mission.:stare:
You may have to get closer. Maybe the mission requires you to find a way around/through the nets. Does the photo button light up for every ship?

Yes the button did light up for every ship. Could be that I had to find a way in, but that is quite chalenging with the external camera deactivated.;)
Well, I just gave up, bagged two merchants, one tin can and collected my Bronze Star. Not bad for not completing my main goal.:D
You know you can use the pariscope under water and see quite well. That's how the real guys did it. Another thing to remember is those misssion objective icons don't always refresh on their own. When I think I have accomplished the mission I force the map to redraw and also look in the message log.

Been there, done that. But to be honest: I didn't want to spend the hole day looking through the periscope trying to find a gap in the net.
But I think it was a bug becuase of this pic I took (I re-started the mission, but now with the external camera activated and see what I found):

At first I thought it was a mine, but I think this is a rudder of a ship, perhaps the rudder of a 3rd carrier. However the rest of the ship is missing.:shifty::dead:
It's the rudder of Akitsu Maru. Jace11 modded a fix for that a long time ago.

Thanks tater, could you please give me the link to this fix or do you know how it's called?

I have had that mission come up three times (and also repeats of a similar mission for Rabaul- damn the repeat mission bug!) Here's how I have completed it.
I approach the area where I know the submarine net is at periscope depth. I wait until complete darkness and until the patrolling Destroyers are well away from my position, then I surface my boat, run at full speed for 1/2 mile or so, then submerge again (but only to 50 feet because it is very shallow). When I get to the marker for the mission I snap the necessary photos, destroy the carrier(s) if I am so inclined, and then surface and hightail my butt at top speed to deeper water.
Man, I cannot wait to dump those silly harbor missions.

Sounds like a good idea kepper! I'll try it out when I get such a mission again.

Yes, I hate those missions as well, because they're usesless. I mean what good does it do to photograph a ship that has certainly left the harbour before I'm back in port.
But I've got an idea: Would it be possible to change the mission that you don't have to take photos of ships but of shore installations? To know how well a harbour is defended is more valuable then to know which ships are currently in port.
