A well respected member of the ubi forums recently died in a car wreck. He's posted occasionally here as well. From his posts he was the kind of guy you wanted to meet in person and have a beer with.

Blue skies, DBW.

This is not a drill. This is hard.

It is with great sadness that I have to tell you all that our friend, DeepBlueWolf, died today in a car accident just outside his farm home in Germany. Swerving to avoid a child that ran into the path of his car, DBW left the road and crashed. He was airlifted to Hospital and operated on but sadly couldn’t be saved. The child was unhurt.

DBW will be sorely missed - of that I have no doubt. His threads drew hundreds, sometimes thousands, of views and replies and his contribution to the community here cannot be questioned. He loved SH3 and later SH4, and was always willing to spend time helping new players to both games. His sense of fun and wise cracks was over whelming and shine through, especially in his ‘Skywalker’ threads which can be read in the SH4 General Forum which I am confident will live on.

Lately, having helped his elder son with school projects, DBW learned how to produce some pretty slick Sig banners, which he generously offered to forum members, such was his nature to share.

Born in Portugal, and later living in Germany, DBW trained to be a fighter pilot, flying various aircraft – his favourite being his beloved F-16. I have attached some photos him doing what he loved best.

I’m honoured to have known you, and to have been a friend of yours DBW. I’m also honoured to be given the responsibility by your crew man who broke the news to me, to announce this tragic news to the forum. I just hope I’ve done you proud my friend.

I dedicate the August Screenshot Competitions to DBW’s memory.

He leaves a wife, a brother, four young children who he very much loved, and a devoted crew.

I have no doubt tonight many arms are reaching across the forum and many of us are looking skyward. Your favourite song, David Bowie's' Ground Control to Major Tom' will forever remind me of you and your great character. God bless.

At the request of the family, they'd prefer only the one image that isn't quite so personal be on the forums, so I removed the one with the cockpit open.

I never knew him or had any 'online contact' with him, but my deepest sympathies go to his family, friends and to anyone that knew him.

To die in and of it's self is a horrible thing. To die so young is worse. At least he was a hero to the end, which is the very best any of us can hope for.

I read about his passing over at the IL2 forums.

Seems like this guy had made a lot of 'friends' and everyone seemed to like him.

Its a shame. May he rest in peace and my condolences to the survivors.

Dear Sirs,

My name is Miky, and I am the oldest son of DEEPBLUEWOLF, due to the volume of mail, in all forms, it is difficult to answer everyone in person.

I would like, in the name of the Family, to thank you for your kind words.

They mean a lot to us.

My Father was a very Special MAN, we are happy he is and will be remembered.

Thank you.

Miky.

I know how hard it is to lose a family member but dispite that there are very few words anyone can say that can actuly make a Loved one feel any better going through the loss.

But I send a heart felt Sorry to everyone left behind who knew him and loved him and hope that time will help to heal your wounds mentaly, physicly and emotionaly.

Just remember he is never gone as long as you remember him the way he was so he will always be a part of your life until the far off day when you meet him again!

I am sorry I missed them the first time around.

So I have writen a little dedication at the bottom of LBO in memory of DeepblueWolf so he will always be around here and never forgoten.

Smooth LBO sea's DeepBlueWolf where ever you are!

It is illustrative of this man's character that he put himself at hazard to avoid harming another. We are all diminished when such a man is lost. You and your family have my deepest sympathy.

Respectfully Submitted

He touched the face of god, in his beloved fighter jets
this man named Deepbluewolf, a man I never met.
He posted in the forums, and made many a friend
he gave his life to save another, in the end

Deepbluewolf you’ll be remembered, as a member of subsim
If you had a question you could always count on him
he took his time to explain, and help for SH3 and SH4
unfortunately, god needed him and called him to his shore

Rest In Peace Deepblue wolf, and know that subsimmers everywhere
are looking to the sky and saying a little prayer
that you get to fly for eternity, the towering skies of god
and the cloud tops of heaven, is where you’ll forever trod.

In memory of Deepbluewolf

While I cannot profess to have ever spoken to him, It is never nice to see someone go in such a random way, especially a man with a family. I have no doubt that he will be missed.

Condolences to the Family and Friends.

I must confess, I'm afraid I don't know you, for being inactive in the modding teams. Yet, I'd like to express my sympathy towards you, your family members and your friends.

R. I. P.

You're now God's speedy pilot, and I know that you're now patrolling His skies, forever.
