The Commerence Raider

June 1940,



Returning home to Wilhelmshaven from my 7th patrol in my type VII C, along the coast of Norway just as the Norweigen campaign as wrapping to a swift close, my watch crew spotted a Commerence Raider. I plotted a corse along side her to give her a salute and say hello. This was the closest Ive got to one. I noticed it had an aircraft on its deck, obviously launched by a catapult or something mechanical because there is no runway or deck. So my questons are this:


1.) Will the CPU controlled Coommerence Raider launch this A/C at enemy units?

2.) Have any of you guys been attacking enemy units at sea and recieved assistance from friendly surface ships in the area (on campaign mode) ?


I really wish I could have spotted a norweign or british merchant so I could watch the commerence Raider take it out :lol:

I myself havent experienced it but I think its possible for ships to help out. I've witnessed friendly aircraft target my prey or my hated pursuer. If your in harbour during an air raid you see friendly ships engaging the attacking aricraft. Mabye that helps?

The A/C attached to ships do not launch, not even from carriers. (However the presence of a carrier means you'll see planes in the area.)

Re assistance from surface ships in battle -- it has been known to happen, but one has to "get lucky" -- you can't arrange for it. Certainly in early Apr. 1940 the odds of seeing ship-v.-ship and ship-v.-plane battles are much greater.

Was stalking a small destroyer that was escorting two large cargo's at night - zipping along on the surface in the Med when all hell breaks lose :o

Shells and tracers are flying in all directions! The Brits had run smack tab into a Italian convoy with 4 escorts! And for once i take my hats off to our allies they badly crippled the escort - reducing the 3 ships to a crawl allowing for 3 easy kills :rock:

No, just for show.

Yes, but oddly only near Norway, nowhere else. I remember in one instance watching some Stukas take my "prize". In another, it was a Destroyer.
