The following picture is off Jacksonville FL. One of my team A&E (ammo and explosive) trucks took this picture. Their son serves on the Truman. She was able to capture the lighting strike as it happened. One in a million shot for sure. Enjoy!

Lovely pic! :D
Very fortuitous, great photo. If someone was trying to take a picture of a lightning strike on purpose, it's easy to do: just leave your shutter open until the strike and then close it. The shutter there was only open for 1/8 second so the person was either very lucky or used some other wizardry. Thanks for posting AVG.

They launched one of those rockets with a copper cable attached.
Did it land on the Carrier or somewhere behind it? Quick, somebody find a plane nicknamed Lightning make a joke out of it.

Looks like an UFO trying to zap the carrier with a lightning bolt. The dirty grey men are at it again...

Wrong! He may have used the term but I don't believe he stated it was a strategy or tactic.
You can of course show me otherwise.

Was it Rumsfeld? I'm not really sure. Thats right it was G Bush who said Mission accomplished or was that someone else? Whatever the case, I believe Bush to be standing around when this was thrown out on the media circus.

Well sir, you have changed you original post for "wrong you can show me otherwise" to He may have used the term but I don't believe he stated it was a strategy or tactic.
Therefore, he may have stated this but I did not claim it was for strategy or tactic. You somehow read this into my statement of "This is what he ment by shock and awe." Apparently you did know who 'he' was or am I wrong on this account? At any rate, I'm not quite certain what you are getting at from a joking statement I posted relating to shock and awe.

Well, you are misplacing my comment, be that as it may. You have yet to show me where GWB, Don Rumsfeld or anyone in the US military establishment used the term 'shock and awe' when it came to Iraq strategy.
I certainly remember hearing it from the media.

Now if you read my post I said "I believe it was G Bush" I did not emphatically state it was G Bush that said this statement. Hence by response on Rumsfeld with question mark. Be that as it may....... In all reality "he" could be anyone. Hence your question, 'Who is he?" My response, "I believe G Bush". The word "believe" meaning I'm not sure. But instead of setting the record straight that you do not BELIEVE he said this or anyone else other than the media without some support information leads me to wonder just what you are after:hmm:
Ok, the 'he' was the media guy...... Sound good?

I'm just after the truth. I suspect you are as well. Too many times what we hear or read that is attached to those who didn't say or do what the media reports. I understand how you or anyone else may have thought the 'shock and awe' phrase could have been attributed to GWB, Don Rumsfeld or the US military establishment. As we know now none of those people or entities had anything to do with it. It came from a 1996 report which sounded 'sexy' to the media (see blitz krieg).
I appreciate your honesty in the end and hope that in the future you won't spread mis/dis-information based on your political stand or the stand of the media.
Cheers

What kind of comment is that.....? Once again, I said, "I believe G Bush" I did not emphatically state it was G Bush. What part of that did you not understand? I would appreciate if you would read what is written and not read into it what you want. Spread of mis/dis-information good Lord. Arrogance becomes you! If you are after the truth then you would simply state that G Bush was incorrect, it was media type deal that brought it into focus. Yet we have several posts to get to the truth. I wonder if I said, I believe is was Daffy Duck'? How many posts to get to the truth? One can only guess.

My honesty in what sir? If my honesty in stating "I believe" and not really knowing? Then great. Misunderstanding. My only deal here is why several post about it? Simply state it was a media thing and not G Bush. I simply state, thanks, I stand corrected. Not so hard.

Easy big fella :|\\
"Shock and awe" was a term used by US military commanders to describe their initial air attacks on Saddams regime. Curiously it was designed to minimize civilian casualties and preserve public utilities and infrastructure as much as possible.
"Mission accomplished" was a banner hung from the bridge of a US carrier by its Captain to note the successful completion of his ships tour of duty. Bush made a speech on that carrier soon afterwards and the banner was visible behind him at certain angles. The media miss-attributed the message to Bush in order to imply that he making that statement regarding the war itself.
Thanks for clearing that up August. I was curious as to why I could not find a clip or quote direct from Rumsfeld. The mission accomplished bit is interesting.

Hmm. More like a bad idea. The White House just thought they'd be good guys. I don't think so.
The White House claimed that the banner was requested by the crew of the ship, who did not have the facilities for producing such a banner. Afterwards, the administration and naval sources stated that the banner was the Navy's idea, White House (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/White_House) staff members made the banner, and it was hung by the U.S. Navy personnel. White House spokesman Scott McClellan told CNN "We took care of the production of it. We have people to do those things. But the Navy actually put it up."[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mission_Accomplished#_note-2) According to John Dickerson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Dickerson) of TIME magazine (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TIME_magazine), the White House later conceded that they actually hung the banner but still insists it had been done at the request of the crewmembers.
When he received an advance copy of the speech, U.S. Defense Secretary (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/U.S._Defense_Secretary) Donald Rumsfeld (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donald_Rumsfeld) took care to remove any use of the phrase "Mission Accomplished" in the speech itself. Later, when journalist Bob Woodward (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bob_Woodward) asked him about his changes to the speech, Rumsfeld responded:"I was in Baghdad, and I was given a draft of that thing to look at. And I just died, and I said my God, it's too conclusive. And I fixed it and sent it back… they fixed the speech, but not the sign."[6] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mission_Accomplished#_note-4)
Bush reiterated his "Mission Accomplished" statement to the troops at Camp As Sayliyah on June 5, 2003 — about a month after the aircraft carrier incident: "America sent you on a mission to remove a grave threat and to liberate an oppressed people, and that mission has been accomplished."
