Ramping-up for SH3

Greetings, I've been reading this forum for a few weeks awaiting arrival of SH3 (beware if Amazon has it backordered :down:). I've perused the posts regarding helping Newbies get started and I've been downloading files in preparation. A friend of mine already has his up and running with GWX, SH3 Commander and some other nice mods, but a question has arisen we're unsure about.

He found what appears to be an all inclusive GWX download titled GWXSetup.exe that's 791MB. He also installed a file titled The_Grey_Wolves_Update_v1.1.7z, which I have not run across in the forum.

I've gone the other route and downloaded the GWX.exe, the five Bin files and the GWX103.exe update. Are there going to be any compatibility issues that will affect our online play stemming from the difference in these files? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

:hmm: Has he complained of crashes yet? It seems he has installed the patch for the older Grey Wolves over the newer Grey Wolves Expansion. Two different mods...and not compatible with each other.

You've done correctly. But as I mentioned above, you'll have mp problems as your mate isn't running the same mod as you.

Notwithstanding this, file content-wise there is no difference between the single GWX installer and the multipart installer. The end result is the same - an install of GWX v1.0.

That's what I've noticed about this forum...fast, courteous and informative help :D! I appreciate you guys taking the time to respond. I've been an active online flight simmer for years with a few forays into a couple of FPSs, but am only now getting around to SH3. I'll research the forum archives and try not to ask questions that've been answered before. Thanks for your help. Looking forward to getting started.

Just a thought... but be sure and play a few stock camaign missions before you actually install and run GWX or any mod for that matter.

this will really give you an awesome appreciation of the hard work several modders in our great community have put into this product.

it will give you a great sense of the before and after of SH3 vs. SH3+GWX. :up:
