View Full Version : Working Air Search Radar
Feel free to disregard this posting, however, although I have had vanilla 1.3 for a while, I have finally found time to start playing it. And OMG . . . having a working air search radar has so changed how day time patrolling goes!
Before, they'd be almost on top of you before you can start trying to submerge and/or man your AA guns . . . now they are atleast 2-3 minutes out . . . allowing even the most novice crew under crash dive orders to get to a safe depth in time.
Time to spend on the surface more often . . . allow the crew to tan, and dry their clothes near the forward hatch.

So who's gonna mod the floating skivvies and other garments forgotten in the scramble of a crash-dive, then. :rotfl:

That's why they do it near the hatch . . . oh well . . . it was an idea.
Well, I don't have a Air Search radar .. started 1941 with tambor Sub... out of Pearl.
Suppose it wasn't available in those day's. Second partol however starts at
Martch 3rd 1942 and still no ASR  .

Starting in 1941 with a T-class, SD search radar is available, for about 400 renown I think. It's not on the sub by default - you'd need renown to get it and upgrade the boat, but it is available.
Starting a new Career i have enough renown.
I only acquirer a new gunner when starting a new career.
Neither of my radars seem to work on my sub, although I do get radar reports when a plane is getting within range.
When I want to select the (think it's the SD radar, surface to air radar and add it to my sub cause the option is open on the right screen) I get a message saying "this option can not be fitted on your sub." (Something on those lines anyway).
When inside the sub at radar station I can't activate the radars (being the green and red scopes).
Any one have an idea as to what or how this is possible?

Yes, it's been talked about ad nauseum. RADAR is not available to control until at least mid-42. Historically, radar wasn't available for all/most boats until early 43.

And since my first campaign ended on a Balao class submarine in early 1943, I decided to start my next campaign on a Gato of the same time period . . . now misspelled Gar, but that's semantics anyways.
Good times to . . . set on normal difficulty, 73% realism, and have sunk about 42k worth of enemy merchants so far half way through my first patrol . . . meaning a weighted tonnage of 30K.
Well back out to sea for me.

In the options menu before starting a career yes! but when wanting to drag the SD radar into it's spot I get a "No availability" message.

The three guy's working the radar station (in the three shifts) must be brothers, all three of them must have a 6th sens or a nose twitching thing going on, with the itch getting stronger as a plane comes within range cause there never wrong about the contacts.

Other strange things... I'm on a patrol with a Gato, with air search and surface search radar. In the beginning, I got radar warnings about aircraft. Now, I usually notice them when they are in visual range, which usually prevents diving in time before they attack.
The sub has been damaged during this patrol, but no damage is shown to the radar equipment, not in the game itself, and not in the external damage analyzer program
