This is my first time at really giving SH4 a test run, I have been playing the Silent Hunter games since the first one came out. What mods work best to give the game a good feel? I beleave I am running SH4 patched with the 1.2 patch. I will be starting out with a new campaign with in the next day or two, and just want to test drive sh4 so to speak.

Any help would be great....

Install 1.3 patch. Run the game vanilla and you decided after some game time what mod would work for you. There are plenty available on the mod forums and some very nice mods in the works.

As already said, get patch 1.3,

As for mods, while i don't recommend playing vanilla (as first impressions are everythign, and vanilla has some annoyances) i can't stand here and say, "download this mod pack", as much as i'd like to. But for starters, id get the following mods:

Realistic Sinking Physics by Wernersobe

Silent Service Graphics mod by Captain Cox (primarly just a mod that adds graphics to the games shell, but it really gives you a glimpse of real subs in the pacific)

Somewhere out there is a realistic battery mod, as stock batts drain way too fast, and im pretty sure there has to be a dive times mod too. I can't be the only one who's ever changed this. In stock, boats take about 1min and 10 seconds to dive. Historically a 40 second dive time was the BARE minium, but a 35 second dive time is what was strived for, so the dive times are waaaaaaaay off in stock.

This mod is so basiclly essential, i've started taking it for granted :88)

edit:
This one too if you want more realistic traffic.

Its just my assumption, i know CCIP had one , but i dont recall if he updated it for patch 1.3 or not. I got some PMs asking me before, but i totally forgot about them. These items are EASILY fixed, so my assumption is theres a 1.3 compatible mod on them somewhere. Realistically, to save yourself alot of "legwork" you probably are better off D/Ling Trigger Maru 1.5. The AI in it however is adjusted to be a little harder then stock. So IF you D/L that modpack, delete the AI_sensors.dat and sim.cfg from the mod, and play it with stock AI for awhile. That said, the AI in TM 1.5 isn't THAT much harder then stock, at least i don't think so.

You realy should get JSGME First, use this tool to install mods mentioned above. it also removes mods with a click of a mouse:D :arrgh!:

I'm playing a slightly chocolate coated version of the vanilla sim. I've only added a few mods, (green button, reduced radio contact, to name a couple) and have not added 1.3 patch yet cuz I want to finish my current career as it is.

When that's over, I plan on installing TM 1.X and patch 1.3 to see if I'm really any good.

I was thinking that someone needs to point him in the direction of JSGME :hmm:

I think that should be mentioned nearly everytime someone says 'hey what mods should I get "?
