View Full Version : Maximum diving depth
Well, it's mid-42 and the escorts are a little more robust than last year. I notice that the control room crew are decidedly nervous at anything near 160M.
I drive a VIIc.
Is crush depth randomized (as I suspect), or is there a reasonable amount of leeway beyond 160 M?
Thanks for your help!

I managed to get my VIIb down to 235m before I imploded. All depends on your hull integrety as well of course.

no worries there mate, a VIIC with full hull integrity should be able to hit 200-220m without much worry, anything more than that and you are asking for it.
I've gone down to 310m in a VIIC/41. Im sure others have gone deeper.

470m in my IXB. ofcourse it was a one way ticket
got to 280m without problems. but at 290 - 300 the hull starts breaking

500m in a IXD2 for a short period of time before going back up again. Unfortunatelly due to a prolonged Depth Charge attack we never reached the surface

it is my understanding that AI sensors do not penetrate below 300 meters. If you were below 300 meters presumably you can go ahead flank and get out of the area and never get caught.
Im quite confident that the ASDIC limitations in SH3 are 300 meters max.

At full hull integrity a type VIIC can cruise quite calmly at 240m, with a type VIIB I dont feel comfortable going deeper than 220m. Dont really have any experience with other boats, the VII has grown on me.

I regularly went below 200 in VIIs both B and C, VIIc as deep as 225 without troubles except my own nerves.
Today my IXb was in an unstoppable dive to the bottom stern first while filling with water and both electrics out of comission I made it down to 350 meters before imploding even though the depth charge that blew my electrics to bits exploded right near the hull :dead:
so know I know I can take my IXb to 250 if I really need to, this is a good thing
U-boats are tough, what US subs can take in feet they can handle in meters (almost) :D
