Its march 31 1940 and im about to set sail from Willemshaven for my 4th patrol. I want to escort the Gneisnau and Scharnhorst to Narvik. Where can I find them and at what date in GWX 1.3?

Have you read the whole section on Weserübung in the GWX manual? I would strongly recommend starting there first. There are also footnote links to webpages containing more information and detail. Who knows? You may find some of you subsequent questions answered while perusing the manual. ;)

Anyway, I'll leave it to someone like BBW to give you the exact position of the ships in GWX, so you can rendezvous with them easier on the date. The problem is, IIRC, that the ships won't spawn/appear if you are there waiting for them. But BBW (or someone else) can clarify that if it is a problem, or dismiss it if I'm wrong.

The other problem you might face in trying to escort them may be speed. These big boys run at 27kt when they want to so you'll have probs keeping up unless you are running modded boat to allow higher speeds.

Yep the ships wont spawn if you wait at spawn point
Plus they have the hammer down so you wont keep up

They start outside of ports too as can get a little congested trying to get out plus wont spawn if your patrol starts at that time

If you are just off the Norwegian coast around the 7\8th they will pass you
Tanker\supply ships first then the warships later

Plenty of Br warships in the area too
