I'm getting a little tired of getting command of the USS Drum followed by the USS Balao when I'm offered a new sub command. I've done some searching of the forums and can't come up with anything that would tell me how to change the name of the submarine I'm commanding in SHIV. Is it possible to change names for a new command or maybe even a mod made by someone for this purpose?

You're willing to risk the bad luck associated with changing a boat's name? Braver man than I! :arrgh!:

OK, let me rephrase my question. When I am given a new command how can I get a different submarine to command besides the Drum or the Balao?

I think you are stuck with whatever Command gives you. :damn: Of course if you don't like it you can always bring her right back to port and probably get a desk job. :hmm: Then you don't have to worry about a name. :) Well you may have another name picked out for Command by this time but I'd keep it under my hat. :lol:

Seriously though I do not think you can change it as far as I know. :nope:

You might be able to change it in a file after you get the boat, but I doubt it.

This post Here (http://www.subsowespac.org/forum/index.php/topic,260.0.html) may be of help but if you wish to keep all the names in the .upc file then perhaps changing the order of the names would suffice.

I think the easiest solution is the one proposed by Beery. Here's an example for renaming a gato sub:

Beery's solution:

[UnitClass]
ClassName=SSGato
UnitType=200
AppearanceDate=19411201
DisappearanceDate=19450902
DisplayName=US Gato
[Texture 1]
TextureName=data/Submarine/NSS_Gato/NSS_Gato_T01.tga
LightmapTextureName=data/Submarine/NSS_Gato/NSS_Gato_O01.tga
StartDate=19411201
EndDate=19421231
Frequency=1
[Texture 2]
TextureName=data/Submarine/NSS_Gato/NSS_Gato_T02.tga
LightmapTextureName=data/Submarine/NSS_Gato/NSS_Gato_O01.tga
StartDate=19430101
EndDate=19450901
Frequency=1

[Unit 1]
Name=USS Wahoo (SS-238)
DOC=19411201
DOD=19450902

That will give you the USS Wahoo every time you choose a Gato in a career.
