I read Hitman's awesome pdf tutorial for full manual TDC. He mentions about the length of the ship for speed calculations, but where in the recognition manual do I find the length??? I can't see it, anyone able to give me a few pointers.

The target length is unfortunately only in the printed recognition manual (I got it with my Deluxe version of SH3), but I added as an Appendex to the tutorial the Aspect Ratio of most merchant ships. I also created a wiz-wheel for quick AOB calculation, which DirtyHarry kindly converted to Deltacad for improved precision while printing :up: Brigs also created a mod to make length appear in the in-game recognition manual (Do a search in the mods forum)

[Edit: Just noticed you want the length for speed, not for aspect ratio]

If you go to Silent Hunter IV/Data/Sea you will find in all folders for the vessels a .cfg file which you can open with notepad. There is the length info (In meters!), like thsi example from NCATakao.cfg:

[Unit]
ClassName=CATakao
3DModelFileName=data/Sea/NCA_Takao/NCA_Takao
UnitType=7
MaxSpeed=36.5
Length=204
Width=23
Mast=33.5
Draft=6
Displacement=15870
RenownAwarded=500
CrewComplement=100
SurvivalRate=80
SurvivalPercentage=20

It is a bit time consuming to open all and note the length, but once done you have it forever.

Hope that helps

Oh, and BTW that system of AOB and speed measuring is originally .... from the Kriegsmarine U-Boots ;) I took it because it was way easier for a single person (The player) than the US system of plotting (Which requires a whole tracking party). Now with patch 1.3 speed estimating by the crew I guess it is already unnecessary....

Cheers, I downloaded the mod for length & aspect ratio in the manual.
