Just an idea for a computer game i had while reading "the zeppelin in combat,a history of the german naval airship division 1913-18"by Douglas H Robinson.
How about a game of ww1 naval airships.just like sh3/4 where you start off training on crappy pre war types and then move on to basic bombing and recon missions in bigger ships with perhaps more bigger engines put in and bigger bomb loads carriable.
With increased sucess such as not getting blown away forever or hitting correct targets renown(or something like it)goes up and you can get addons such as extra guns and stuff.missions can include reconnaisance bombing artillery spotting resupplying garrisons in german colonies.
It could be like sh3 with different views and people to move about(control gondola engine cars inside the hull machine gun positions etc)radio messages aircraft to shoot at etc.I dont think this area of air warfare has been very well covered befor.
And just like SH3 the Allies win, and your blown out of the sky. :hmm:

There was one like this not too long ago I think. It never took off though. It was more a fantasy airship thing.
What was that flight sim set between wars with biplanes and zeppelins?

No, this was later... it was set in an alternate universe.
The alternate reality one you are thinking of is 'Crimson Skies', an MS release.
Since airships were fairly invulnerable for a large part of the First World War owing to the fact that they operated at night and flew at around 14-18,000 feet, and it was deemed so hard to get near one that the first RFC guy to shoot one down got the Victoria Cross, I suspect flying Zeppelins might make a rather dull game. When they became more vulnerable to Allied aircraft with Buckingham incendiary ammunition, a better rate of climb and a higher service ceiling, the Germans largely replaced them with conventional 'Gotha' bomber aircraft.
Count Von Zeppelin is on record as saying at the time that: 'The Zeppelin in an antiquated weapon, the aircraft will rule the skies.'
As far as I recall, there are one or two sims in which you can fly a Zeppelin though, CFS3's Over Flanders Fields add-on being one of them if you fancy trying it.
If you are really a glutton for punishment, you could watch the appallingly bad 'Zeppelin' movie with Michael York for some inspiration.

How is Flanders Fields, Chock? I don't like CFS3 at all, but that addon tempts.

YES THANK YOU. It was a fun game.

It's very impressive, more like a new game/sim than an add-on. Kind of like the GWX of CFS3 if that gives you an idea.
This video was made using Over Flanders Fields, bit low res, but should give you some idea of it:

is the zeppelin addon just a graphics thing that behaves like a plane or is zeppelin flight characteristics modeled too?
i thought zeppelin was an ok film.
As far as I recall, the Zeppelin flies like you'd expect one to, I had a go in the thing out of curiousity, it was very slow at climbing (more like a Led Zeppelin), but it seemed pretty realistic to me, although clearly that's just a guess as obviously I've never driven a real Zeppelin!

This has been suggested before, a Silent Hunter III-style game where you control a zeppelin instead of a u-boat. I'd like it, myself:up:.
Worst thing is, it's probably possible to make such a mod for SHIII or SH4. Wouldn't surprise me the least.

I downloaded "First Eagles: Great Airwar 1918", and it is really fun. You just have to love the Gaggle Formation the AI uses. The modeling is really well done, and the planes come apart and burn into the ground in very pleasing ways.
